Hi. Can someone please help in telling me whether you have any problem with your fuel gauge showing zero fuel when there actually is some. When I switch the car off, it goes back to normal at times. What problem does this signify? Thanks for any help.

I have an issue with (left hand turn road racing) tracks where the gas stacks up in the right hand tank causing the guage to read high. But it goes back to normal after a couple of minutes in the pits.

I have a similiar issue. It seems that when ever I fill the tank past the time the pump automatically stops (just giving it a bit of an overfill or rounding up the dollar amount), the gauge will read empty. then the next time or two it will red back at normal levels. Sometimes it will still read empty after an overnight wait.

I haven't brought it into the dealer to check it out however. because.....

It has always gone back to normal readings eventually in every case.
It hasn't done it recently, but then, I've been avoiding topping and rounding.

This also helps avoid "Madturk" disease. ;^P

I've had the same problem on my 355, and I know other 355 owners with the same issue. It occurs most frequently with me if I let the tank run too low, then it sticks on WAY-empty. Sometimes for an additional tank or two!

I just reset the trip odo each fill up, and use that to judge the remaining fuel in the tank.

    vty,

Hi everyone. Thanks for your message. I'm going to have the fuel gauge issue checked out and will report back. Probably next week some time.

    Cheers

means Germans were better than our Italians to project, choose and install the correct components for an automotive electric plant that had to be installed on a sport car. ;)

I had a similar problem with 348, the gauge was very slow to show full after filling. After tearing apart the sender, I found the float just barely floats, I mean only 0.5 mm of the whole float is above the surface. New senders are NLA, at least for the 348, and my work-around involves making a new float using something called: Nytrophyl. I have a blanking plate installed in the tank so I can use the car but the project will have to wait until winter as I am working on a Porsche Targa that clowns worked on. Here is a picture, note that one contact wire is a attached to the float like a spring. When that wire breaks, it shorts against the center contact and the sender is no longer accurate. FWIW.

    Just a note......

I never fill my 355 with fuel right until the nozzle automatically clicks off.

I do not want fuel in the connector pipe that runs from the filler spout to the tank.
They are known to corrode dripping fuel onto the exhaust.
2 months ago someone here had a highly dangerous fire just after filling up to the brim due to this reason.

I put in 75 euros of fuel when my guage reads zero.
I know then that there is no fuel in that connector pipe.

    Just sayin

Interesting thread! Have you solved the problem?

I have a random working fuel gauge on my 348 tb. Resently more often not working, in fact. Sometimes it wakes up if I drive the car under hard acceleration or fast in a roundabout. Cheers!

This has just happened on my 355 GTS F1 (1999). First the fuel light went on and stays on, then the fuel dial went all the way to nothing, even with a full tank.

Is there an easy fix? Is there a fuse or similar that's causing it, or is it a physical issue such as the 'floater' mentioned above?

    Thank you for any guidance.

I just used the method mentioned above and stopped "topping off" and it hasn't happened again.

If the fuel gauge goes below half on my 355, I fill her up.

The digital gauge on my 2004 575M is almost accurate.

This is the best advice, imho. Haven't driven my "new" 355 F1 GTS enough yet, but in my Mondial whenever the fuel gauge gets to half talk, I fill it up. Past half tank, the gauge swings back and forth with the corners and fuel quantity is a guessing game.

If I had that problem with the 355, I'd have my specialist look at it. Perhaps a sensor change would do the trick?

    Best regards,

    Nuno.

My fuel guage takes about 6 or 7 mins before it registers any fuel... ive got used to it now and generally keep it fueled to half a tank.

Hi one & all. My first post here.
Just bought a Mondial T and among other minor annoyances is the fuel gauge whose reading is completely useless. I'm assuming that it is the transmitter in the tank and not the gauge. I am told that the transmitter (part 137419) is not available and that it is not possible to repair. My experience of repairing old jukeboxes is that anything can be repaired if the will is there! Has anyone got any experience of removing/repairing the sender? I understand that the same unit was used in various models.
    Any comments appreciated!

Welcome - I was going to suggest a breakers yard if it had been used on other models but the part no only shows as Mondial T (parts book at Europares.co.uk - always very useful)

thanks for the comment. I have had dealings with Eurospares a few weeks ago and found them quite astronomic on the part I was looking for. If a transmitter was available I suspect it would be at a price at which I'd just leave the gauge reading gibberish!
Maybe this winter I'll extract it and see what can be done with it.

The very first time I filled the tank to the brim it overflowed whilst it was in the garage and hour later due to heat expansion. Poured out onto the garage floor. Not sure how the entire car didn't go up in flames. Won't ever do a 'full' fill again.

This is not something I've encountered with other cars before...and those other cars don't have red hot manifolds only centimetres away.

We have a fire extinguisher now...
