Looks to me as though it could equally well be some sort of plastic with a metallised coating.
    1. Cough up for a repair by your local friendly Ferrari dealer.
    2. You will no longer be able to afford to eat, so you will lose weight.

(Note: This thread should not have been moved from "Vintage" to "Model Specific / FF/GTC4". This pertains to the original GTC/4--you know, it was a 70's thing.)

There were similar, multiple cracks on my GTC/4 hinge covers (probably from the seat belt buckle getting trapped between the covers and the door). I did part of the repair myself, first sanding away the existing plating on the front and back of the crack and repairing the crack with epoxy. Then I sanded the epoxy smooth, feathered in the remaining plating and sent the covers out to an instrument repair shop for re-plating (about $250). As with most things, I probably did this the hard way, although the results were fine. Perhaps there's a way to strip the original plating instead of spending countless hours feathering it. Also, you could probably get by with spray painting and clear coating instead of re-plating. Or, just send the whole thing out for repair.

Had the same problem with my C/4 years ago. The piece is plastic. Just do like Bill did or send it out to be re-done. I don't thinbk you broke it sitting on it. They just break over the years, and the mounting tabs don't exactly hold them in place.

The plastic pieces were originally chrome plated (or some equivalent process, with a satin finish), so by "re-plated" I mean plating them again, presumably by a similar process.

Which OTOH shouldn't be a surprising from a car not designed nor intended for slow speed suburbia commuting/traffic (or freight deliveries). ;)

Found a set at Autoepoca for $100..Now I need to find a place that does chroming onto plastic, or a good quality painting for them.
Any ideas of a good place?

There are advertisers in Hemmings that "chrome" plastic. 1960s cars used this.
