I recently bought a lowered 458 Italia driver with scrapes on the bottom of the bumper . I want to add a skid plate but before I do I thought I would solicit some opinions on a course of action. The bumper is covered with Xpel which is scraped through in certain places but the skid plate will cover about all of it . Therefore , do I put the skid plate on and cover the damage or do I repair the bumper first by having the PPF removed and repair any damage to the bumper and then put the ppf and the skid plate back on? I have access to everything I need to do a totally pro repair to the slightly scraped underside of the bumper I'm just kind of wondering if it isn't over kill . I also know how paint work is looked upon on Ferrari's

    Thoughts?

Repair it, if only to know that you did it right. Its the principle of the matter. Also, you'll have less 'splaining to do if you sell it and the new buyer finds damage that was arguably, albeit not dishonestly, concealed. Yes, its a driver, but it ain't no Hyundai :)

I would carefully and thoroughly document the damage with photographs before you repair it, however, so the boogeyman of "paint work" doesn't rear its ugly head. If I were the future buyer, this would reflect well on your integrity and your pride of ownership...

    I agree 100% ^^^^

This is exactly what I did with my scraped front bumper. Had it removed, professionally repainted, cured for 2 weeks THEN I fitted a boomerang full skid plate.

Best thing I ever did [emoji123]

Good points. That's probably the direction I'll take but the problem is the season is just getting started and I'm not sure how long I want it laid up . This is a driver but it does drive me a little nuts. It's also really in excellent condition and anyone would buy it in a minute cosmetically as it sits now.

Are the scratches in the underbody of the bumber, so you can't normally see it? Then - who cares. Drive it and get it repaired, when necessary just before you sell the car.

Certainly can't disagree with the first two comments, and frankly I would have it repaired, but I also think it's fine to cover it with the skid plate and then if/when you sell it, provide full disclosure to the buyer. I don't think a buyer will want to remove the skid plate, especially given the 458 has been lowered.

waste of time and money. its a 458 with miles that you are gonna drive - do whatever costs as little as possible. on my ff i dont ever repair the bumps and scratches as knowing they are there allows me to drive the car with peace of mind im not gonna mess it up cuz its already blemished.

If you can't see the scape when covered withe the plate, then don't waste your money repainting...IMHO

i just sold my 488 Spider and it had underbody scratches you couldn’t see. It had zero impact on my sale price.

The only way you can really see them is if you store on a lift or crawl underneath. Just leave it as is. I think anyone buying these cars expect some kind of scrapes under the front bumper anyhow. You can also install the Fabspeed pucks so they take the hits next time to prevent further damage. I have them and they are great.

It seems like the Fabspeed pucks works mainly at the corners if you approach a driveway at an angle. That may be an option. I have a nose lift and rarely use it. I'm careful and make sure I'm at an angle entering and exiting driveways.

There are also two toward the center of the car that take impacts over speedbumps etc. You get a total of four which are strategically placed. Easy install too.

Out of sight, out of mind. Don't bother. Especially because the skid plates will cover any underlying damage. Save your repair money for a rainy day fund.
