Sorry for my ignorance, but I never knew they were all factory red. I always thought they were factory red, yellow, and black.
    Thanks

Has anyone ever provided documentation that there were any non-red F40s from the factory?

That car must of been owned by a Mr AP as that number plate was originally on the F50 my dad purchased from joe macari which was also in yellow.

    Thanks for sharing this pic.

Just check the window sticker. If no sticker then I'd assume the car was repainted. Classiche can reprint original stickers.

Hello, Recall seeing a poster with rows of F40s in red and one yellow in the center up front on a race track in formation. Think it was a track in France.

After a bit of research - albeit, admittedly, redundant research - I stand by my assertion: no F40 ever left the factory in any color other than red. All non-red F40s were repainted AFTER they left the factory. If you believe there's an F40 that left the factory in a color than red, than I urge you to get proof - factory documentation supporting the existence of such a unicorn. And not a window sticker, either - window stickers can be altered and reprinted, and don't say they can't because they can, I've seen it - get a MODIS print out, or a letter of authenticity from the factory. Until that day comes, this is all conjecture, and I stand by the facts: all new F40s left the factory in red.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but as far as some proof this video of "Mr. Miura's" collection in Japan has a yellow F40. They talk about it being ordered from the factory and point to the PPG sticker under the front clam as proof (no close up). There are a lot of visitors to that collection so it shouldn't be hard for someone to get a photo of the sticker if they still don't believe it.

    Video is here: youtu.be/eH5SfF6fqfw?t=286

A fair amount of basic misinformation is in that video, and, even if the PPG sticker does actually says 'Giallo' on it, this by itself is not proof of anything.

I'm afraid all this does is flog the proverbial dead (prancing) horse.

All F40s, like 288 GTOs, were originally red.

Yes, there was a bit of other inaccurate things in that video, but I was hoping that one in particular was not. I did some more digging and found this. They say it was originally red, but then repainted yellow "at the factory." I will guess they meant at Pininfarina...

The cover of Cavallino #53. The photo is credited to Marcel Massini at Imola, The issue was printed in 1989. From the text on page 40, Massini notes that the car was owned by Dany Deletraz of Geneva, Switzerland and it had red seats and plexiglass side windows.

Yes, I took this pic at Imola. The car is chassis number 76625 which was RED originally, a very early F40.
Build start for 76625 was 31 March 1988 and it was completed 24 May 1988.
The Scaglietti body number is 12.
    Engine number 19145.
    Gearbox number is 11.
Delivered new to Ferrari Suisse SA.
Delétraz had the car privately repainted from red to yellow.
One year later it was privately repainted back to red.
    Not by the factory.
Once again, all F40's were born red. Every single one.

The factory went through a period from approximately 1988 through 1991 when the owner's pouch of every Ferrari model contained yellow books from owner's manual, warranty books, sales and service organization, etc. They were all yellow.

you can't get a classiche certificate for any F40 unless its red, you can get classiche for any Ferrari even if its had a colour change as long as that colour was available originally to order. for that reason I don't believe any f40 left the factory in anything other than red.

Are you sure they weren't later repainted at Pininfarina? :D :D :D

    ciao

Edit: without joking, is Always very interesting and useful to read this discussion about Ferrari limited production color, with the testimony of those present. I was Always told they were all red, but maybe anyone had his car delivered in a different color as the dealership sent it to Pininfarina or to a Body shop after receiving the car from the factory and before the customer delivery. In any case Marcel, Joe and Mark are right: the first paint was red for all and to achieve the Classiche it must be red.
