    HI can any one confirm if a bosch fuel filter 0 986 AF8 092 is suitable for a 86 RHD 328? I can't find seen to confirm if it is correct or not? on line it states that it is also suitable for Mercedes vehicles.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Just a comment to note that the filters are different on the US vs Euro 308QVs, and may differ for US vs Euro for earlier 308s and 328s as well.

    Are you sure about that F PN in your drawing? Shouldn't it be 117792 (which is the Bosch 0450905601)? The online F part sources have F PN 178647 = Bosch 0450905203 (used on some of the earlier 2Vi and QV and early euro 328?). Don't know if those two Bosch PNs are quasi-physically-interchangable, but the F data base seems to indicate:

    117792 = Bosch 0450905601

    178647 = Bosch 0450905203

    Steve, I cannot confirm that and cannot see what I fitted in my Euro 328 (88.5). I know however that for 328's the Original spare part catalog names below different Bosch numbers, one for US cars and one for non-US cars. Checking at Eurospares I noted that they supply the same for both. Mine is supplied by Superformance with part number 178647. It seems a bit like spaghetti so I hope others can help us.

    By the way the nice sketch in my above post and the pdf manual were made by others on this site (I don't know who so I did not ask permission).

    Further to what Steve has provided, 0 450 905 203 was the successor of 0 450 905 004 (Ferrari p/n: 115738). As mentioned before, the 203 has now been replaced by 0 986 AF8 092 (should also be Ferrari p/n: 178647).

    Bosch vehicle application data shows the USA 328's used 0 450 905 601, and the EU cars used 0 450 905 203, but I'm not sure if this data is 100% accurate.

    The two filters are not directly linked as interchangeable in Bosch data:
    • 0 450 905 203 mentions a special protection sleeve instead of a spacer, a 'dirty side' connector M14 x 1.5 (inlet I assume), 'clean side' connector M12 x 1.5 (outlet), and a release date of 10/1988 (its predecessor - filter 0450905004 was released 05/1974).
    • 0 450 905 601 filter features a lint trap and pressure damper, an inlet and outlet connector size of: M14 x 1.5, and mentions for USA Audi/VW vehicles with K-Jetronic. It has a larger internal volume (0.6 L) than the 203 (0.4L). Release date is 12.1979
    If anyone is interested there is a lot of useful info available via the official Bosch Classic technical archive (the site is available in English, German & French).
    The old K-Jetronic (CIS) component info is available in there; fuel pumps, injectors, pressure regulators etc (and it's free), but the comments about the parts are in German, so you'll have to translate them. Try this link and then choose the Product search (the Ferrari cross-refs are a bit thin on the ground, so best try searching via the Bosch 10 digit #):

    Interesting ....
    So Bosch item number 0 986 AF8 092 is the correct fuel filter for a 328?

    Rod, I believe it is correct if your 328 is a UK delivered car.

    Are you able to get a look at the filter that is currently fitted and see the part number? You should have enough space to get a smartphone down there. I think the filter should be nestled down on the firewall close to the LHS fuel tank (if it's mounted in the same place as a 308 QV, which I assume it is).

    HI thanks... yes ive got access to it... However I think the part number is facing the fire wall..!!! The unit looks identical, I bought this unit a few months ago from an online store as it stated it was for a ferrari 328. I've since noticed on the box that it has a ref to mercedes. which has thrown me. The bosch part number states that the filer also fits several mercedes vehicles too.

    I may remove the existing filter but I would more than likely have an old part number on it which may not be bosch? Are there any challenges in changing the filter?

    thanks

    Rod

    It's pretty straightforward.

    Don't overtighten and twist off connections;

    Before you start removing the old filter, have the engine idling and pull the fuel pump fuse - the idling engine will stall after the pressure in the fuel lines and accumulator is reduced. Much easier and less messy to remove the fuel filter connections with no fuel pressure in the lines!

    Just to add to this, I have just changed the filter on my UK 328.

    F part # F178647 = Bosch 0 986 AF8 092

    The filter removed was the afformentioned 0 450 905 203

    The box for the new filter also says "Mercedes Benz" on the label & gives a Mann part #cross reference of WK8303

    It came with a couple of sealing washers in the box so its not necessary to buy any others.
