    They had holes in them, and the way they made the holes made them ''unmeasurable''. Despite being to see with the naked eye. They know how the FIA didn't have a test for the wheels.

    They were not. They were cleared and Ferrari used a derivative at some point. Mercedes were hesitant even after clearance as they felt teams might still protest.

    When they were cleared, why were Mercedes still concerned? Because even they knew that it is strange that RB was told they can't do that with their rims and hub but Mercedes is allowed. If they were sure it is good with the regulations why would they fear a protest?
    It was a strange story....

    A protest is often a tactic forcing the authorities to clarify a grey area when they previously avoided to make a decision on a technicality.

    It doesnt imply a breach of the rules, although the media like to comment upon it with an accusative tone.
