JP the OEM vents are made of ABS plastic and are held to the dash with steel spring clips. Drying leather has enough strength to snap the pin on underside of the vent then the vent warps. My billet vents are bolted to the dash once there installed the leather wont move. Here's link to remove dash very easy job say 2-3 hrs Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same. Very happy and look great in place. Only very minor suggestion I'd make for the next batch Phil is to countersink the fixings. The dash really isn't hard to pull either. Having never done it before, I had the entire interior of my car out excluding carpet in about 4 1/2 hours. There are some great threads on here and just remember to take photos and a compartmentalised screw container with labels is your best friend.
If a set is still available, would like one. Please email me: [email protected]. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I bought a pair of these from Rizzo a couple weeks ago. They arrived more quickly than I expected, given that they were shipped from Australia. This is a great product. -Great quality and finish (although because of personal preference I replaced the supplied hardware with polished stainless) -Very well packaged. It took me about 3 hours to disassemble and reassemble the dash. I had never done this job on a 360 before, but I'm a professional mechanic, so your mileage may vary. One thing that may be of interest to others here: Before installation, my dashboard leather was wavy when cold. As you probably know, leather is one of the few natural materials that shrinks when heated (ever overheated a TIG welding glove?) so the dash would be smooth in the sun, but in the morning in the garage it would be pretty loose, and didn't look good. Installing these vents provides tension to the leather which has been lost due to the stock vents popping out.. which allows the leather, when cool, to become looser than desirable, causing the waviness. My dashboard is now smooth as silk even when cold. A great little bonus which I was hoping for, but not expecting! FWIW, I did two other things during my installation: Once the dashboard was removed, I treated the leather with a generous amount of a product called "Old Leather Softener" made by Colourlock. I let that sit overnight before reassembly. It restored some pliability to the leather, allowing the vents to stretch the leather back into its original position more easily and quickly. Also, I bought some stainless steel fender washers (about 1 inch outside diameter) and put those on the back side of the dash to act as a reinforcement and to spread the load of the fastening nuts on the fiber dash structure. This worked well. I had to grind a couple of notches into the center two washers to clear existing protrusions in the dash structure in that area. After that, I tightened down the nuts gradually and was really impressed with how much these alloy vents brought the leather back into its original, intended shape. Long story short, you should buy these. They are a great product. I can't guarantee that they will solve YOUR dash waviness, and Rizzo does not advertise that they will, but they sure did the trick for me!
My experience also. The secret is to do this modification in a timely manner before the leather shrinkage gets too bad..
Ordering a set now. I thought I was on top of the leather care over the years (the PO was a fanatic about it) but obviously not enough.
Phil- received the set last week. Going in tomorrow. Very pleased with your vents. Regards, Bob Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
