If memory serves me right the idea was that the chicane would reduce the speed leading onto the straight to help promote overtaking on the said straight. Don't think it worked too well.

[AMus] Renault will also intruduce a new power unit at Barcelona. While Ferrari is looking for more power, Renault is trying to improve reliabilty.

Wait, wasn´t Ferrari told last year that there should be no spoiler on the rear mirror??? Did that regulation change or is the FIA blind on Mercedes again?

I believe Pete the "infraction" regarding Ferrari's mirrors was the support of the mirrors acting like an aero device.

However, in this case "putting a winglet" on the mirror looks to aid as an aero device. Good point.

Will the FIA look the other way?? Will Ferrari or another team lodge a complaint??

    Great pics...thanks !!!

Aero just carries on getting more and more detailed, even the front wings which seemed to start the season fairly "clean" are now having lots of subtle little tweaks.

So how do you regulate complexity out to reduce turbulence and hence overtaking ability? (If that is a solution to overtaking?)

Engines are an analogy to the teams themselves...in my view!

The problem of the Ferrari mirror was that the aero device was attached to the mirror, while in the Mercedes is the other way around. Of course, the intention is the same but the Mercedes design at least is faithful to the letter of the law. It´s not the first team that does something similar and so far it´s been legal.

All these modern cars with super complex aero and Prius engines are only now just as fast as a 2004 Ferrari. They look far uglier and with vastly more boring racing.

And imagine what the 2004 car could do with real racing tires, and not those grooved abominations. The current car would still be way behind.

The aeros are absurd...they should be restricted to single piece wings...no end plates, no vanes, no moveable parts...and allow only 3 variations of the design. They can chose which ever of their 3 wings they want to run at any time...high down force, low, or in between but that is it for the season. They don't have to introduce them all at once...but no more than the allowed three variations. And no aero add-ons to the body...no changing defusers or shark fins or mirrors, etc.

At the other end, allow the engines to fail as often as they like and let the teams use as many as they can afford to. This is "motor" sport. If they want to make it about aero, let them go into yacht racing.
