A reminder that our favorite annual "feel good" event is coming up in just over three weeks! As far as I'm concerned, Rides to Remember is a "must do" event, ahead of other interesting events that may be happening on the same date. And if you've never driven AMP, it's fun even if you can't go as fast as you'd like to.

And if you don't have a car to bring for the kids to choose from, volunteer! I did that a couple of years ago when my car was in the shop, and I still had a blast! Don't forget that you get free lunch whether you're a driver or a volunteer, and the smiles on the faces of the kids are priceless. It also doesn't take all day; after lunch you're free to leave.

(I've been committed to this event ever since the beginning. The young fellow who rode with me at the first event did not survive to see the second one. We owe it to these kids to give them some sunshine in the midst of the darkness that many of them may be experiencing. Hopefully, they'll all make it. But...)

So join us at Ferrari of Atlanta on June 1. (Even the drive to AMP is fun.) Register at http://fmoaridestoremember.org/.

Jim, thank you for the wonderful post and moreover for your support of the kids. Registration is almost closed so we hope everyone who wants to be there will be able to join us. Praying for the weather to cooperate as it always has.

It sounds like a great idea. Is track experience required in order to bring your car? I wasn’t sure from the online registration process.

If you're just bringing your car to go on the track with the kids, the answer is no. These will be paced sessions with a 70 MPH top speed; we don't want to frighten the kids!

If you want to drive on the track at speed, a session is usually available after lunch when the kids have left. You'll need a helmet; I'm not sure what the process is for signing up for fast laps. I'm hoping that someone who has done that will chime in with the details.

Thanks. Never driven on a track before so just wanted to be sure I’d be able still take the kids for a ride. Heading over to sign up now.

No track experience is necessary as the laps are lead/follow. This event is for everyone with an exotic regardless of racing or track history. We discontinued the after lunch sport sessions as they were of little interest to the group. I know AMP will have the kart track open for spirited driving after the event. I can tell you their kart track is special and loads of fun.

A reminder: ALL exotic brands are welcome, this is not an all-Ferrari event. If you have any brand of "hot" car, feel free to bring it. We've had Cobras and Corvettes galore, Lotuses, Maseratis, Aston Martins, Panteras, Jaguars, sporty BMWs, even Rolls-Royces!

It's coming up this weekend! If you've registered to drive, you should have gotten your email with the forms to sign electronically. And I'm certain that they can still use volunteers on Saturday both at FoA and at the track.

Weather should be dry and warm, but not ridiculously so. The fact that AMP is at a slightly higher elevation should take a bit of the bite out of the heat, and the fact that we'll be done by about 1:00 should help as well. Hope to see y'all there!

A reminder that "drivers" at the event cannot wear shorts. Fortunately the high heat has broken and tomorrow's temperature at AMP will still only be about 81 as late as 1 PM.

Thanks, I would not have known that. Any other things to know about as a first time driver?

I guess, just be at the dealership on time to check in. The drivers' meeting is scheduled for 8:20 and we'll leave at 8:45 for the drive to the track. We should have a police escort up until we enter Dawson County.

On track, we will be paced and observed and anyone felt to be reckless may be thrown out. This isn't for the drivers, it's for the kids, and they don't have to be going ultra-fast to be impressed. Some drivers get kids one right after the other and are on the track a lot, others (like myself, usually) get very few riders, but of course, it's kids' choice.

Oh yes, no open-toed shoes allowed.

I shot very few photos, since I knew that many others were being taken officially. Here's a photo from the AMP clubhouse upper level taken right after arriving, showing more cars pulling into position in the lot, and the purple Lambo that was clearly one of the most popular cars there; the owner (who ran most of the day with the top down) admitted that she didn't spend much time standing still in the parking lot!

Will pointed out that in 14 years of having this event, we've never had rain. I remember one year when dark clouds appeared at AMP, but they all passed us by. Someone up there must like us!:)

Jim, thanks for the pictures and for joining us in supporting the kids. The weather did, once again cooperate and give us a beautiful day for Rides to Remember. This years event was by far our biggest to date with over 650 registrants. Seeing the support we get from Atlanta Motorsports Park, Morrisons and so many others to provide a great day is special. If you have never joined us for Rides to Remember please consider it for next year. It's a great way to give back and enjoy your car while doing it. Only 363 days to go before we start our 15th year!

I noticed that when all the cars had been parked at AMP, there looked to be room for at least 8 more! The trick is to try and avoid other events, like the one at Biltmore.

I hear ya but have always tried to stick with the first Saturday in June to be consistent. Some years there may be a conflict while other years we are clear.

Rides to Remember is the best "car" event each year in Atlanta!!! The organization is amazing. The police escort... officers dropping off as we left their jurisdiction… others picking us up. Keeping a group this large together as we traverse two lanes road is hard.

Who had more fun? The kids? Us?

The kids loved the purple Lambo. Couldn't get enough of it. Hope the driver had a full tank at the start of the day.

A question… as I left I was given a watermelon at the AMP gate. It was the best watermelon I have ever eaten. The thank you note I received showing the event sponsors listed "Kid's Choice Watermelon". Anybody know where you can get them? I did a web search and could only find where I could buy wholesale and sell them.

Thanks to Ferrari of Atlanta for putting on a totally first class event. I loved it.
