Next purchase, price very similar, so I am a bit sat on the fence here as I know I can easily chip tune the 488 GTB to 700 hp+, no track days planned, thoughts please ? I currently have a 430 Scud, 430 Spider, Boxster 981 GTS

Totally different cars. I had both. Still have the 488. The 3rs is a great machine but 488 is better for daily driving due to seats and ingress and egress.

I miss the 3rs and will get one later to addd back to the garage.really no wrong choice here. Cars are just different.

The 488 and GT3/RS are completely different animals. The Porsche is definitely more track focused and much rawer. Looks are mundane. Same old- same old. Interior and exterior. Great fun to drive since it is compelling and thrilling with a sonorous engine note.
The 488 is much more refined and compliant. It is noticeably faster than the Porsche and makes for a great DD. The appearance and the overall feel of the car is much more special and infinitely more exciting. Sound is good but Porsche is superior.

I’m assuming he is referring to an early model used 488- 2016 or so. At least I hope he is.

I received $145k on my 2016 gt3rs.1 trade in with 6,600 miles . I believe the dealer sold it for $165k

I don’t see how a gt3rs is in the same ball park for cross shopping with a 488

    His title says .1 gt3rs

A more relevant price comparison would be a scud with a .1 gt3rs and he already has a scud

He’s in Europe so could be different market, but if same price, go for 488 because it means the .1 GT3rs is over priced.

He really should be looking into a .2 GT3 or GT3Rs.

If no track time, I wouldn’t look into the 3RS. Streets and cops can’t handle 9k rpm

488 is more enjoyable on public roads.

Two completely different animals. A Porsche is a Porsche. Great car. However it’s a Porsche. Not necessarily sexy. Not necessarily the fastest car running around. However it’s a great solid pedigree of a car from a solid brand. I have had 12 Porsche’s of some model or another over the years. Always go in with excitement hoping that this is the special one. After 4 months. It’s ground hog day. Same old same old. I don’t care if it is a base C2 or a GT2RS. Same car give or take. P.S: I have zero experience with a 918.

Had 488 gt3 gt3rs all tracked and powerslided.
If the goal is road car only, then gt3 is better than 3rs.
If only can have one car, then 488 all the way.
If you have extra, 488 spyder is best for sure.

Really depends on usage as others said. The 488 in bumpy road mode is a STELLAR street car. Bumps don't phase it at all and yet there seems to be no penalty in usable handling on the street for that compliance. The GT3RS, despite active dampers is WAY less comfortable on the street. Every crack and seam (forget about potholes, that's a suspension bottoming event) are a nightmare. I daily drive a GT3 and wish I could get away with daily driving the 488 (see garage queens post). GT3 RS is even more tuned. Really much better for track use but in the end, both are fun cars.

BTW, I don't think I would bother chipping the 488. 661hp is enough for just about anything and the risk to reliability is just not worth it. My 2c.

Very different cars. GT3 RS is designed to be for track junkies. It is really not a street car. It's raw, it's loud, it's stiff, hard to get in and get out, hard to drive, does not particularly look beautiful (I like it though), the wing is perhaps too flashy for street use (what is it good for at 80mph anyways? Down force comes at higher speeds), etc etc.
On the other hand, it's pure joy on the track. If you know how to drive a GT3 RS on the edge of its performance levels, they are fun. Trail braking heaven! Handling nirvana! However, if you make mistakes, they punish you hard; that rear engine likes to sling shot around (even though the newer models are much better now.) Now, you have to remember that with the weight of the engine on those large rear tires, there is plenty of traction, but once it's gone, all hell breaks loose. Also, it's a NA engine, the real power comes when you rev the engine to over 6k rpm. 6000-8500 rpm range is where the RS engine needs to be operated at; otherwise, you will be very disappointed with power delivery as compared to a 488. However, you rarely drive in that rpm range unless you are on a track somewhere.
The rest of the car is a Porsche, solid build quality, engineered well, amazing steering, amazing PDK transmission, etc etc. (relatively cheap to maintain)

I do currently own a 2019 GT3 RS and owned multiple Porsche GT cars before. Cannot live without one in my garage.

OP doesnt specify what primary usage is for. Track or street. If street 488. I dailied a 991 GT3 for a couple years. Cant imagine doing that in an RS. Scrapes on everything even with FAL, cant see sh-t because of the wing, doesnt get exciting until high rpm at which point youre looking at jail time.

I say meet in the middle... manual .2 GT3. Should be around the same price as .1 GT3rs. Better engine.

The 488 may lack the "purity" of the GT3 RS but on most tracks it will benefit from its higher power to be faster, and it's well balanced so while not as fast as the Porsche in the corners it's still not ridiculous (and btw, most of the Porsche advantage in the corners is in the tyres - I bet the 488 would be really close if using the Pista's Cup2 tyres).
