Very professional on his part; he could have also left his I.D card or his passport, for good measure.
This looks really amateurish; it is amazing that it succeeded so easily , showing once more that the simplest plans are often the best...and then?
He knew what he was doing, as he has been exchanging E-Mels with the sller for ten days, and, according to him, he was "very knowledgeable" about the car.
Perhaps he lost heart in the middle of his escape plan...

It really is excellent news the car was recovered so quickly, it will be interesting to hear how the recovery actually happened.

some observer saw the car and called the police. Nowadays it is obviously not the best idea to steal such a rare car in the middle of the day.

The discovery of the car by the German Police had nothing to do with social media(s). Seems that the neighbours called the Cops. In a little village like that where it was found, the car simply made too much noise to be ignored...

That's pretty far away considering the moon is less than a quarter million miles away from us...lol. :) Sorry I had to. :)

I have no idea how they found the car, but usually you don't call the police only why an old noisy Ferrari is parking in an house near your one, unless you didn't hear/read somewhere that one rare Ferrari like that has been stolen not far from there just some hours before.

Maybe internet/FB/Instagram had a part, who knows.

    ciao

In Germany it was hard NOT to see the car when you went online that day. Every (news) site covered the story. So maybe it wasn´t social media but for sure it was the internet where the observer saw the stolen car.

It is exactly that, according to the german press; the 288 GTO made so much noise when the thief parked it into the garage that one of the neighbors noticed it as a "different" car, then made the connection when hearing the news, and called the police. New information as for today: the car is kept under locks in a secret place, as the thief still has its keys!

Joe - of the lower front quad lights, which do what? I’m guessing a pair are dog lights and a pair are flasher passing lights. Is that correct?

Apologies - fog lights, not dog lights.
