Has nobody got any comments to make about this? Is it too much money or good value in today's market?
At least 2 people thought buying this was a good idea. Given sufficient additional resources - reassembly will probably be a lot of fun. Is there a profit to be made? I doubt profit was motivation for bidding. .
Well, it has: ...... Sold - £212,800. The best part, is the 99% complete. I am still laughing about mine being 99% there. Righto. Of course as stated, it "should be at the least 99% complete, certainly all the important parts are not only supplied but in good order"... That, my friends, is the oldest line in Dino sales in 'boxes'. That 1% missing, can also mean years of searching for a part that not only is NLA, but almost impossible to find, even a small detail, and clearly it is only relative to the degree of attainment that is sought...... Then rust, it is there, I promise. The fortunate buyer, will not make money re selling the car. Regards. Alberto
For those of us whose cars are complete, fully assembled and in good running order, this must be very encouraging. Or would be, if we wanted to sell.
In a strange coincidence the other Avis 246GT hire car mentioned in the auction info (06356) was purchased in a stripped downed state by member snowsports1 on this board several years ago now. It was languishing in the US in South Carolina from memory and was much less than 99% conplete.
Now that I’ve decided to sell my car, this might be an interesting sales technique. Disassemble the car. Pull a few of the most expensive parts. List it for sale as 99% complete.
Alberto A friend of mine purchased a 308GTB a few years back and lots of parts were in boxes, the problem he had was that quite lot of the parts were of no use whatsoever or the wrong part for a different model. As you quite rightly say, he spent years finding the right bits and paid a fortune for some of the rarer items. Strong money Tony
Maybe someone looked at the value of the parts and won't even attempt to restore the car. I hope not...
Tony, I can fully identify with that. My car came with deTomaso Mangusta door glass, but who knew at the time. It was just in boxes so I assumed it was right. Sold the glass, rather well, I might add. Truly a Pyrrhic victory Now, I am still searching for 'proper' fitting glass. Regards, Alberto
