3647GT, in 62' Surtees balled it up at Goodwood and in 63' Hitchcock balled it up again at Goodwood. Rebuilt in time to compete in the 64' Targa (DNF). 3rd in class 65' Targa. 1967 bought by James McNeil JR and still owned by the McNeils today. Lovely :)

Sorry, my mistake. It is, of course, not 11/55 but actually 02/56 of Road & Track. See below. My apologies.

When was the last time this yellow 375MM was out in public?

I heard the last time it was seen at Pebble Beach where the driver left in fury, ripping the lawn in the process, after judges criticized the car because the rocker boxes were painted black.

One or two issues after the Cavallino article, two of the judges at the Pebble Beach Concours wrote letters explaining the controversy regarding the judging and subsequent results. Body color wasn't the issue, but the rocker covers were. The two letters from the two remaining judges explains all of the issues with the car. It's too bad it hasn't been shown since as I would really like to see it up close.

Just met Jim and Sandy O'Neil at the 2019 Sonoma Speed Festival. At 78, She is still racing GTO #3647 which they have owned since 1967. Delightful couple. Jim was a pal of Coco Chinetti in New York.

I also attended the Sonoma Speed Festival and enjoyed seeing this GTO and the McNeils yesterday.

Note the car to the right. It's a very special 275 GTB/C said to be one of three factory racers. The car has a lot of GTO body features and does not look like the usual Berlinetta. Does anybody know more about this car?

    thanks,

    Jon

07185 never raced in period. It stayed at the factory between April 1965 and February 1967 and was used as a special test vehicle, it also received different bodywork modifications, especially the rear bodywork and rear window.
The current owner purchased it 5 February 2002.

Love the little cheap white plastic key tag that just has “GTO” handwritten on it :)

I will claim credit for originating the phrase "GTO 65", as that is what the three 275 GTB/C Speciales actually were. They were the next generation of front-engined comp GT cars. Of course the 250LM came along at the same time and changed everything. 7185 weighs 2,226 lbs ready to go, but without fuel. We made 348 bhp @8,400 rpm on the dyno.

I remember it well. Dyke documented the significance of these special cars, the 3 'GTO 65's', in a piece he wrote for Cavallino.

Just a heads up that a television series that I produce called Magnificent Machines will be on CBS Sport Network on Saturdays from July through September at 9:30 am, and the episodes on August 10 and August 17 will be focused on coverage of the Sonoma Speed Festival. It will include vignettes on several Ferraris, including interviews with both O'Neils. They are fascinating people...

I recall #7185GT was with Mike Sheehan for some time (4+ years) in the late 1990s/ early 2000s with an ask of around $1.5 million which in 2019 seems crazy cheap.
