The stolen high-performance vehicle was spotted outside a café on Saturday morning but when officers approached, the driver hit the accelerator and crashed into railing just 50 metres away.

    Incredibly tragic.

The female passenger died (trapped and burned to death), he is going to jail (probably for the rest of his life), and a totaled Ferrari CS.
Selfishness often leads to the destruction of life and/or property. I hope his punishment is swift and just.

if the female passenger was conscious after the crash, is it possible that she didn't know how to open the door and panicked?

Each female person I have ever given a ride have to find the open-door handle for a few seconds, a few tries. Think of when this is under a panic situation

Very valid point - the CS door handle is rather counter-intuitive and hidden at the lower pocket end of all the carbon fiber. Scary to think that could have been a possibility.

Well, on the bright side of things, the CS market is coming up.

"Police will allege the Ferrari, worth an estimated $500,000, was stolen from outside a café in West Perth around 10.20am."

That's about $350,000 USD. Still seems a bit off....then again, didn't they report that the 360 that went for a swim was worth $200k or something? Definitely don't count on reporters or Judge Judy to ever get car estimates correct.

Cheapest CS for sale in Aus is $480k aud and most expensive is $615k so that $500k estimate is about right.

    Sad news for all :(

Make no mistake guys, these are dangerous cars, there are no two ways about it. Be careful when you're out there. Don't lose focus for a second.
    Don't over do it.

Get yourselves one of these and keep it in your front or most accessible pocket. Practice getting it out while you're in your seat and strapped in.

Hit the glass in the corners (not in the center).

My head is still in a blur with 'why did it burst into flame for hitting railings 150' (50 metres) away. There's no fuel up front. Railing would 'give' a lot (not a solid wall).
Or is the CS built different from a reg 360? What am I missing here?

I can understand a fire getting ignited (battery in front) but a viscous fire engulfing the passenger immediately?
    Damn!

Remember Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere so fuel swirls the opposite way. It probably has to go through the front to feed correctly. It's science. :)

Makes you ask if it was working, seeing the size of the fire

I don't know the exact reason but certain cars in Australia are way more expensive than US. I think Ferrari is among those.

Any imported car in Australia is expensive thanks to duty designed to protect Holden.

Sold to a graphite manufacturing operation I suspect. From the pictures there is Literally nothing salvageable but burned carbon. :(

Not entirely true, there's gazillions of Jap cars there. There's punitive taxes on "luxury" cars though, and that seems to hit European cars really hard. Anything interesting seems to be at least twice the price of the same thing in the UK.
