My 6 year old 458 spider (2013) has since day one has had a faulty warning that the clutch is overheated. It happens after pulling out of the garage and traveling less an a mile. The mechanic has bee reluctant to fix claiming he would have to reboot the computer which may cause other troubles. What's your take?

I bet he would be happy to fix after warranty has expired.

IMVHO the issue should be fixed no matter what it takes. It may be the clutch not just software.

How could you sell a car in this condition?

You shouldn't be going to a mechanic that thinks resetting the ECU is cause for alarm. Usually disconnecting the battery and clearing / rebooting the ECU's on the car solves a lot of troubles, not causes them.
