I've always found Troy to be caring, polite and well adjusted. Parents have a lot to do with that but I bet he had teachers who put effort in as well.

 

Did I go to public or private, and how many skools?

 

Thanks Ian, he is a good boy unlike his dad who was a constant annoyance to his father having to bail him out after another police chase (when they caught me)

Troy had his girlfriend leave him a short while ago and I asked if he was ok (young boys do some drastic things in those situations sometimes) and he just said "plenty of them out there dad" , so he seems to be well adjusted in that dept

He was lucky he went to a state school that had an exceptional headmaster who was head hunted to a private school when they saw what he did with the Southport State HS ... an exceptional young man

I did my Shakespeare exams by going to Valhalla cinemas and getting by on maths by going to Rosehill racecourse and working with the bookies

I went to a catholic school where the Brothers were all into bondage....They loved belting you with the strap and were all narcissists......

Both sons are at a private school. I'm not convinced its value for money. Perhaps a better outcome than at a state school - who knows. ?
Having seen many of their peers go to the same school as them since the age of 5 I've come to the conclusion that the parents and parenting style are the key differences in how the kids turn out, not the school. The school is only there to teach them stuff, but it's the parents role to give the kids values , motivation, respect etc. If the parents are D/H's , every chance the kids will be too. I am constantly amazed at some of the stuff that I hear about - drug and alcohol abuse are widespread by the age of 15, and that can only happen if the parents enable it by providing $$$ and a complete lack of supervision or interest in the kid.

Yep that’s why we sent all 4 to Private, I’d do it all over again, they all turned out kind respectful happy human beings with a great work ethic, that’s good enough for me

Being bought up on the Gold Coast Troy was exposed to the seedy side of life from an early age.

One of his friends got done for drug trafficking at 15 !!!!

Luckily I use to do a 10km walk with him every Saturday to the prawn trawlers near Versace and it gave me the opportunity to instill in him some insights into the world's machinations and who to trust and who not to and respect for women and some men.

My wife and I fight over Troy's welfare all the time, hence I think he knows he is cared for and loved so is well adjusted as Ian says but I wished I had sent him to TSS as I believe he would have got a better leg up in life from the connections he would have made

 

I'm not so sure about making connections - they say that's one of the benefits of private schools but that's not been my experience.

 

Well a lot of well off people have come from TSS in QLD and at least he would have had the opportunity to mix with them and be known as an associate with the possibility of getting a batter chance of achieving something in life

 

Being happy is just as important as achieving, if not more so.

Just think about parents of suicide victims...

 

Well he's WAY ahead of me !!!

Classic example, we're out walking in the rain or just come out of the movies and he says "this is the best day of my life dad" .... and I'm too stupid to agree that we have a great life, so who is the dumb one here ?

I stupidly use to equate money with happiness but there are plenty of rich people going to their graves unhappy, .... now I'd be happy in jail, it's a state of mind
