We all owe a debt of gratitude to Leonardo Fioravanti.

One interesting point from Fioravanti’s autobiography is that he designed the 308 in early 69 immediately after P6 was displayed but the design sat dormant for several years to make way for the introduction of the 365 GT4 BB. This was an extremely busy period for Pininfarina. When the first car was shown in Paris in 75, the design was already 6 years old!

Production was also delayed because they wanted to make it out of fiberglass and couldn't achieve the quality they were looking for. So the GT4 ended up coming out first and everybody was thinking that can't be the replacement for the 246 and it wasn't, the GTB was. But it makes you wonder, if the GTB had come out before the GT4, it might have had a Dino badge on it.

Indeed, Fioravanti mentions the quality issues in the book but this was after the GT4 was already out. Enzo only gave the go ahead for the GTB in late 72 when the production of the GT4 must have been quite far along.

The first GTB prototype from Pininfarina did have a Dino badge. There are photos of it but I don’t have any to hand.
