After 5 years, I'd hope he'd found some way to stop his mats moving! ;)

Remove them and put them on no shelf in the garage. Very dangerous things and unnecessary unless you want to just look at your car. So the carpet gets worn ... bug deal. Better than writing the car off or killing somebody because the throttle stuck down, and you can always repair the carpet.

Yep. Are you saving the carpet so the next owner can say "look, the carpet is perfect under the mats!"

I went to my local boat store and got some made out of stainless for about 20 bones. All 12 pieces. They are stronger and better looking IMO. The original bronze finish looks like crap next to these. I use a red hot screwdriver to form a perfect oval hole in the mat for escutcheon and retainer. Just bring the base to the store and match it up.

Ok that's absurd... use them and write off car or be safe and dont use them. They are not mutually exclusive lol. How do other cars make it work? It's not like trying to split atoms for God's sake. I had spiked mat stitched to custom made mats like for those plastic office chairs on carpet.

Redoing my carpet currently it's 5k to do right with thick Wilton wool. So there is 5000 reasons not to wear it out? Different color mats are also something people like.

The easiest way is to simply place them where you want them to stay, and don't drive the car. Probably the most popular method.

A little unrelated but are the original flimsy OEM ones still available?

Sticky RX sell the rotating tab and ring setup that is similar to OEM. I got them from some supplier in the uk a few years ago for the 355 as all the tans were busted and the oem mats torn. Worked a treat on the aftermarket mats just cut a slit and fitted the fasteners then screwed the tabs to the mount points on the floor. Perhaps on the 348 you can screw or rivet the tabs to the metal floor pan through the floor carpet?
