His EE plates are back on his GTO and will stay there. We shared some of those stories in the July 2016 issue of Octane magazine.

From memory Lauda didn't own the GTO for all that long before he sold it to Munich collector Franz Wieth. Wieth took the export plates off and when ever I saw the Lauda GTO at the local monthly Stammtisch run by Munich dealer Sport & Touring Cars as he used red plates on the GTO (back when I lived in Munich starting in 1987) . It was easy to spot as Wieth owned two 288 GTOs at the time and had regular black lettered plates on the other GTO. I've posted pictures of both the Wieth GTOs here in the past.
In September 1987 58329 was sold via Niki Lauda's attorney Dr. Thomas Huber of Vienna to Franz Wieth in Starnberg. I was personally involved in the sale from Wieth to its next custodian (July/August 2010). Marcel Massini
Just 1 year and 4 months to be precise, but long enough to create some wonderful memories over the summers of 1986 & 1987, which were thankfully chronicled in a number of magazine articles Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same one on display in Celebration 2010 or did this owner want the same plates for car show display purposes only? The sidemarkers are different. I think all 3 of these cars were being displayed by Ferrari of ATL, but I could be wrong. edit: the month/year on the plate is 06 86 for the photo I posted. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you. Appears it had delivery miles on it when I saw it in 2010 based on this now-sold listing of it: http://www.tomhartleyjnr.com/used/1985/classic/ferrari/1985-classic-ferrari-moira-swadlincote-for-sale-57495
When I inspected 57495 on 27 April 2011 in Atlanta it had 149 genuine kms. Virtually a brand new car. Original key fob still in pergament envelope from factory. A virgin. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
As Marcel has already clarified, not the Lauda GTO (which has EE.304.AK plates and no USA DOT side-markers) I agree the mileage is virgin, but, it had the misfortune to have the horrendous USA DOT side-markers applied to it.
Hi, First post on here. Here's a 288 GTO seen at London Concours yesterday. It is s/n 52735. Thanks, Evan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you. Very nice. It seems there were at least 10 nice Ferraris on display (Nick Mason's LF, 166 Inter Touring, 275 GTB, 250 TDF, the viola Daytona, Testarossa, 599 GTO, GTC, 288 GTO). Marcel Massini
Think it must be a new event. F40LM 79891 there too and a whole sea of Miura (my favourite)... https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/londonconcours2019/
Recently I saw the 'white' edition of the 288GTO owners manual. Doe anyone know more of it? Seem original, but it is lacking the official Ferrari print number. Many thanks! Elder
