I’m heading to Thunderhill for Sunday “ongrid.”

No speed records this Sat. Standing water in places and generally lousy conditions. But still fun learning restraint and limits in the wet.

Guy binned a nice early 70's 911 on the first hot lap of the opening session. Hit a puddle while accelerating out of a turn and bam, hello concrete barrier. No injuries other than pride and metal. Sort of gave a sobering reminder for the rest of the day.

Driving in rain can be sobering experience. I was instructor this Saturday with steady rain all morning. My lotus was fine in turns on 888s tires but not so much on breaking even in straight line. Mid engine car can swap ends when back gets light. Several incidents in instructor group so even experienced drivers can have trouble. Best thing for me in rain is to practice car control on slow turns that have run off space

Was interesting how people get so ingrained in doing things that they are inflexible. The day was hosted by PCA, and at one point they put a speed limit down the main straight due to standing water. Everyone was driving down the middle or right of middle, which is typical on a dry day, or when being passed. But the left side of the track was draining very well with no standing water. We (w/instructor) were cruising down the left side, staying out of the puddles and the backwash from those in front (no one behind trying to pass). Same way all over the track, people were not tuned in to the variable conditions like they should have been and just kept driving the dry line.

I did a rainy day with a 458 and was easily passing Speciales due to a combination of my car being on MPSS while they were on SC2s, and using the “off” line that wasn’t as slippery as the normal dry line.

No, after 6 years I was ready for something with more power. Lotus served me well though, taught me the value of keeping mid corner momentum. I drive the challenge car like it’s a big lotus

For a single day, I can run it myself. I bring nitrogen bottles and spares, but it's been very easy to live with.

that's what ive always thought re challenge cars despite what ive read here. many here say need entire pit crew, even for a 360C.
    is nitrogen for tires?

Nitrogen is for tires, air jacks and impact gun to take off center lock. I will generally check for loose suspension bit at least once per day, so I use the air jacks for a quick lift. It's actually easier to use once you get the infrastructure in place.

It’s way beyond nice driving. I’ve sat right seat with Ron driving my 458 at this track and at speed and it’s amazing! He is talented.

Back in Spa Francorchamps - my personal best with the 488 has been improved to 2'53"39 from 2'55"... I'll post a clip when it'll be properly edited.
We had a nice week there, with a Ferrari owners day on Monday and Tuesday, and then the European Le Mans Series week-end where I competed in support races with the Caterham (best time 3'12"124), with mediocre results ;)
