It looks like the original (I assume) U-channel was glued in. Can anyone corroborate this? Does it really need to be glued in?

I never glued mine in, the shape of the u channel more or less squeezed into the frame and made it a tight fit anyway.

Thanks Tony. I am glad to hear yours is working fine with no glue. Mine looked fully glued in but that looked like overkill. I might put a small dab at the top, middle and bottom for piece of mind.

Just changed the original channel on mine and it was definitely glued in.

Second owner of 05702, both channels had a sloppy amount of glue applied and believed to be OEM

That being said, I was in there looking because of slow window movement. i found that cutting the bottom few inches off the channel facilitated window movement and it is well within the door so nobody sees it and there was no interference or rubbing

FWIW, most of the 365 GTB/4 door (sliding) glass channels I’ve worked on have appeared to had glue used for their (presumably original) installations and given that both models, if I’m not mistaken, were constructed at Scagliettis during same time period...

    Correction "RUBBER " added
I did not mean to infer cutting the metal structure
