wrapping up a trip in Italy... took a family tour in some of these little gems!
    They are hillarious!
I'd use to kick around the neighborhood, go to grocery store.... just little things.

    Am I nuts?
just starting searching eBay... there are a hand full around.
any insight into these cars would be great!
    thanks!

    You are not nuts.
The wife wants one for the same reason.

My only advise is get one that’s been properly restored and already in the US.
Check BaT, they usually always have one listed.

I just sold my 1968 Fiat 500 a few months ago. Easily the most fun car I ever had. Always the hit of every car show I went to. I miss it.

These cars are super simple and easy to work on. Just a little more than a VW bug as it is water cooled. You have to be careful of RUST and also suspension issues. They use a kingpin front suspension.

My advice if you get one is don't get hit in one because safety was not on their list when they designed it.

My cousin had one with 35 hp, and it was a gas to drive. Everyone who is anyone in the automotive industry has or had one. Michael Schumacher had at least one. I was in Rome a week ago and saw this on the street. Its like new and dates from the mid 1960s.

Like they above said... Easy to work on. Not safe in traffic though my friend. Please keep that in mind - then go get a 912 or 914.

The Abarth 1000TC is based on the 600, which is a completely different model than the 500.

I owned an 850 for a few years, which was about 150% the size of a 500. Small, rear-engine Fiats are a lot of fun as long as you realize you might as well be riding a motorcycle in today's traffic, from a safety standpoint. In the end, the fear of getting crushed in traffic by a distracted SUV driver kept me from putting many miles on my car, so I sold it.
