My Ferrari Maranello 550 has recently only power up to 4500 rpm. So I decided to buy a diagnostic tester. My choice fell on the Foxwell NT 520 Pro with Ferrari software. My two Ferraris (Maranello and F512GTB (F355 with 512tr engine)) have no OBD II interface, but only the 3-pin plug. At the 512TR it is open and at the Maramello it has to be opened. As an adapter to the OBD II connector I bought a Fiat / Lancia adapter. Unfortunately, the connection to the diagnostic device does not work. Does anyone know what pinout the 3 pin Ferrari plug to OBD II connector has? I have the same for my F355. The Fiat adaptor you have should work. Are you powering it from the battery in the picture or through something like the cigarette lighter? Is the immobiliser switched off and ignition on?

Haven't heard of the Foxwell brand, nor any Ferrari-specific software for budget scanners. Sounds dodgy. Have you tried your Fiat adaptor and Foxwell scanner on other Ferraris? I thought that normally the 3 pin diagnostic plug would be blanked off. Why does it have two wires going somewhere? Does the car actually have a 16 pin OBD plug at the end of those two wires? Does your adaptor OBD connector have pin numbers? Looking at the Maranello schematics and digging up some old notes... For the left ECU 3-pin plug: grey-green wire is the "K line" - should go to pin 7 of the OBD connector brown wire is the "G line" - Signal ground- Should go to pin 5 of the OBD connector. brown-green wire is the "L line" - Should go to pin 15 of the OBD connector Adaptor red power wire should be on the positive battery terminal, feeding power to pin 16 of the OBD connector. Adaptor black wire needs to go to the car earth/battery earth. Not sure which pin it goes to on the OBD connector. 4? For the RH ECU, the K line is the violet-white wire. The trapezoidal OBD plug has pins 1~8 on the wider side of the plug if that's any help. I stand to be corrected
Chasing down those two wires took some time. According to the wiring schematics, the car does have a 16 pin OBD connector. Both wires (brown-green and black-brown) go to it. These two wires are actually spliced to the two wires coming from the other ECU before heading off to the 16 pin OBD plug.
I bought the Foxwell for my 550. It would work for normal OBD II but when I tried to make it connect in Ferrari mode it would not connect. Many times I communicated with the Foxwell team and they said to update it. I did that many times over many months. It still never connects in Ferrari mode. I think it is a waste of money except for normal OBD II functions.
Yes Ian, I used the OBD connector on my 1999 USA 550. I was checking it again today but still doesn't work for Ferrari mode. Works fine for normal mode.
Still wondering why the 3 pin plug needs wires on both sides of the plug unless, perhaps, communications are required between the two ECUs. Here's a diagram I started to put together yesterday showing the left bank diagnostic 3 pin plug (the right will be similar): Left Bank Engine Control Note the 2 wires going to pins 15 and 17 on plug 277, then look at the following diagram and how the wires on those pins are spliced (ultimately ending up on the OBD2 plug "334" on USA cars): Alarm System F550 It probably won't help, as the problem seems to be the tester itself.
I think it is a problem to take an extra battery. A customer from me say, that do not work. The Foxwell has pins 4 and 5 connected together inside the analyzer so that is not the problem that is mentioned in some of the links above. I will continue to upgrade my foxwell software from time to time, but I'm not holding out much hope. I think Foxwell has no Ferrari to test what they claim works on, and they are just hoping it works as advertised.
I check my 3 pin. It is OK. But - goes to OBD 5 So now I get connection at OBD Modus. Not Ferrari I have Temperature differences ECT and IAT. Difference LOAD PCT....Ideas for the problem???? So I need a better 3 Line adapter for driving and testing to see what happens at 4500. I'm not familiar with the abbreviations... ECT = Engine Coolant Temperature? Was the engine running? IAT = Inlet/Intake Air Temperature? = minus 40????? That seems cold for Germany. Check the electrical plug for the sensor between the air flow meter (MAF) and the air filter box. You have also a diagramm for right Bank? minus 40 is no connection. I thing I must drive first 10-15 minutes. The Thing is that the Catalysator is to hot or the Motronic think it is to hot and put the ignition over 4200 back to loose the power. My friend test today the Foxwell tester at is 360. It works also in the Ferrari program.

Ferrari550RightBank(1~6)Injection.gif Note that there were several errors in the original Ferrari diagram: Different wire colour codes on the same wire (unresolved) Pin numbering on ECU plug was shifted one place to the left (corrected) The component numbers on the spark plugs corresponded to the wrong bank. I'm not sure of the spark plug order on the diagram.

Today I work again with the Tester. With the new Adaper I can Drive now. The problem with the temperature ist, that the banks are Master and Slave and have only one sensor....
