The cars are bought for many different reasons. For some who always want the latest model they will not care about GPF. However some will just say no to the idea of spoiling their Ferrari driving experience with this unnecessary device in the USA.

    My own thoughts:
If I’d been offered a Pista allocation on the condition it included GPF, I would have passed. The unknown makes it too large an ask. Could always buy second hand down the line.

However My deposit is in and the check is cashed, so I’ll roll the dice and take the car. Maybe no GPF? Maybe it’s so great the GPF will be irrelevant? We’ll see.

But in the future? I may be done buying the latest tech.
    GPF and batteries? I’m out.
Perhaps it'll be time to get a beater air-cooled 911.

All audible evidence to date has been much diminished sound with GPF devices. And, given that GPF devices do impact engine performance due to increased backpressure and requirement to "burn off" to regenerate, if such a car was used as a track car or only for high speed drives (or drives where high engine RPMs are maintained regardless of forward speed) it might not ever have sufficient regen time due to lack of oxygen in the regen cycle from car being mostly used as Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and GPF devices become congested over time yielding less performance and increased likelihood for repairs. The vote here is "pass" and find a non-GPF fitted vehicle.

At least with catalytic converters you can remove and use dummy O2 sensors to satisfy the ECU, but because GPFs are "sensed" and engaged by the ECU the only way to delete GPF devices is to have a reprogrammed ECU... To that end, hopefully Ferrari Challenge Cars will never have GPF devices.

I will for sure greatly increase my purchase of used high enjoyment cars without sound deadening systems like the currrent GPF. And retain these vehicles. While writing this, I am now asking myself “why did I sell my 360 manual?”

But I will still purchase new vehicles at my current rate in the hopes of a sonic solution for the US market. Assuming they don’t bring me the enjoyment I want after driving them in the first year, I will probably be selling them when it makes sense.

Hopefully, some smart enterprising materials engineer or engine specialist will have a breakthrough here. Or another solution that reduces the particulate matter generation coming out of a combustion engine so we don’t have to have GPF.

Otherwise, I fear more of a trend to the monotonic pure electric. And I say that with respect to the benefits of full electric for transportation where the rest of the world is going. But not where I want to go for fun.

Living in Silicon Valley and having friends who are originals in Tesla who think that fun is purely about metrics, I am constantly bombarded by them with “Your 458 will be in a museum.”

    My reply: “Thank you”. :)

What is GPF? I'm serious, I've never heard of it.

GPF will be annoying I am sure, but the HELE thing is also completely annoying. I am glad my F12 is a 2014 without it.
