The 911 is all about marketing as is the same with the Golf and in a sort of way is the Mini and Fiat 500, a formula that is iconic and there isn’t a thing wrong with that... even if it’s a bit boring.

 

Nope, and nope to PP's theory as well - all comes back to the marketing people... basically whatever sold well last year is what they want more of now; hence all the 'derivations' aka copies. This is happening in every field.

 

You should have learnt by now that if you don't agree with me, you're wrong.

It wasn't a theory, it's fact. Everything has to be in a certain place and do a certain thing under certain circumstances. Legislation is a huge part of car design, sadly.

 

'Design' is about finding a better way to make things work within the rules... The 308 was designed within the same 'design rules' as a Fiat 128. It can be done, just need the marketing folk to get their feet off the designer's throats.

 

FFS.....that was then....this is now. There are many more restraints now than 40+ years ago.

 

Of course I know nothing about design unlike the airconditioning salesman...

Where's the rule that says cars have to be ugly ?

Is that a Japanese rule ?

Look at the current Hondas, Lexii, Subarus

There's no doubt you're a brilliant designer and architect, but clearly you know nothing about the rules that have to be met with all car designs. That's why you're off track, not because you don't know pretty from ugly.

 

You're a fool and completely missed the point.

Have you seen the arse end of the cars I listed ????

They are butt ugly and they are using the same constraints as over cars that are good designs

Easy fix.

Have all cars designed in Italy with either German or Japanese underpinnings.

 

I've always said the best car will be designed in Italy, built in Germany, but have Japanese electrics

 

Sounds about right to me.

Ian they are saying there is a large percentage of people in mortgage stress...The people who bought during the peak are finishing their interest only honeymoon period towards the last quarter of this year and will have to start paying P + I on properties worth less than they paid for...They are expecting major problems with this....Hope it's not going to be as bad as they are forecasting for the last quarter of next year!...

That chart needs the Reserve Bank's interest rate to be included as well. Low interest = free money = spending spree

 

The point of the chart is that in the past car sales increased after house prices, whereas this time around cars peaked and downturned before houses.

The message is, if you see cars pick up again, buy a house fast!

Reserve Bank has to follow the rest of the world, our currency would be too speculative otherwise. We are in a low inflation / low interest rate cycle, arguably lots of different causes for that, including the rapid emergence of China as a manufacturing economy and consumer of raw materials. Meanwhile Chinese investment in property has underpinned many markets: UK, Canada, Australia, etc, just as Japan did a generation ago.

I'm not sure that we've had an easy debt boom - our banks have maintained tight lending controls since 2008.
