Ferrari is definitely plucking chickens here, first of all they pissed off the Pista buyers with the cheaper F8 with exactly the same engine and now they piss off the F8 buyers, most of which can certainly afford a SF90 Stradale, thanks Ferrari for the ride, feels like we are chickens being plucked !

The question though for current Pista owners like myself is that our MY2019 Pistas do not have GPF. So they could have superior sound to the upcoming F8 which will be a MY2020. And from what I currently understand from the swirling mass of discussion is that GPF will be a requirement for all MY2020 vehicles like the F8.

Where do you get that Pista owners are pissed off by the F8. One is a regular production car in the F8 and Ferrari si going to crank out as many as possible over the next 2-4 years. Anyone can get one.

The Pista is limited run car, has much more visual appeal, is differentiated with stripe package and is the limited focused track version.

I’m a Pista owner and could care less about the F8 or anything else.

The engine may be the same, I don’t know but Pista is a Pista and you will see a massive difference in resale in Few years between the two supposedly “same car”

I'd think that Ferrari is rather smart - Pista, F8 and SF90 have actually different target customers; I don't buy the idea that people willing to spend $300K on a car (the F8 price point) are the same as people wanting to spend $430K, and people wanting to spend $430K are also not the same as people willing to spend $500K. As long as all customers are happy with what they get for what they spend, Ferrari is doing it right.

yeah but how they present the Client options and manage expectations is somewhat misleading to whom decides what to buy, when

I don’t feel mislead at all. Have no issues with what Ferrari has done.

No one knows. Speculation is between 1500 and 3000. I just got back from my dealer. Had to pick up a check as my 488 was sold. I was originally told they had 11 Pista allocations. One of the reps stated they had only received 7 cars for the dealership.

I have no clue the number of Pistas being built but it seems to be a relatively rare car in the US

Do you have any ideas how many Speciales were made? That was a 2 year production run. Pista Is one year run.

3000 is most definitely on the high end

Pista production was pushed through to avoid the GPF. Eventhough the F8 has essentially the Pista engine there are differences between the two engines. The Pista is amazing and not pissed with the release of the F8. Rather have the Pista over the SF90.

I’m taking a Pista, couldn’t care less about the design of the F8 , and am underwhelmed with the SPF90, although I’m on the “list” to get one if I change my mind.

I think the latter is a better option than the $1.2M priced AM 003 or the $2M Pinnanfarina electric. Smart move by ferrari to undercut in price and likely perform comparably on certain circuits.

Not sure I understand the complaint. Exotic and high end car mfgrs employ this model regularly. Build the base model and sell it for for a few years, tweak it in a limited production, then offer similar upgrades as standard for the next base car. It's just business.

These are expensive platforms to develop and produce, tweaks around the edges serve many functions, production integration of worthy R&D, extend the model life, increase ROI, increase revenue per unit, offer exclusivity and induce FOMO to prospective clients. Off the top of my head I can think of examples from Porsche, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Lotus, BMW -- and probably many others do this same thing.

So, chicken's being plucked? I don't think so. Where the problem may reside is in the buyer who commits and then expects some kind of buyer's remorse insurance on unannounced models.

When I was at the factory a few months back, the 488/Pista line was producing about 30-35% Pista's by my count of what was on the line at the time. My bet is this ends up being about a 2200 - 2350 car run. And I do not know how many of those are ROW vs. NA cars or USA cars vs. other NA cars.

That seems very reasonable. If you look at the total production for the year for Ferrari and peg it at 8000 cars total you get roughly:

    • Ferrari 488 Pista - 1700
    • Ferrari 488 Pista Spider - 500
    • Ferrari Portofino - 2300
    • 812 Superfast - 600
    • GTC4Lusso - 1200
    • GTC4Lusso T - 1100
    • 488 GTB - 300
    • 488 Spider - 300

Now I have no idea how accurate these numbers are but im just spitballing and agree with you that the 2200 or so number for the Pista seems accurate.

Pista is a 2 year run. 2019 and 2020. At least that’s what my dealer told me when I ordered my Pista. He said it would be MY2020

2 year model run but one calendar year run. Actually a year and few months.

Deliveries started in November of 2018. Those would all be 2019 MY cars. Production ends December of 2019. Anything built from now till end of year would be a 2020 car.

These numbers represent 2019 MY vehicles, so those produced from last summer until next month. Given that NA was seemingly not prioritized for first model year Pista deliveries, I expect the 2020 MY sales into NA to match or exceed those figures. I have not heard anything official that 2020 MY will be a stub year with production ending in December.

Yes. This coincides with the coupe:spider ratio being 2:1 which I’ve heard somewhere.
