Next chance I get on a drive with JM I’ll be asking about the dreaded 355 cam belt serviceit would be rude to ask on a public forum Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I only had to do a full engine rebuild on that thing because of all the crap ferrari quality. Of course I made sure I used genuine ferrari parts to make sure it happened again.
I'll tell you what the services cost ......... whatever it needs to get it fixed !! This time around $7k because I damaged a LOT of stuff at Wakefield (engine mounts, CV, alternator) You have to pay to play To get the exhausts iconel coated some years back was $300 which is well worth it I'm told by the people who have had it done. Supposedly drops the temps substantially
Did you get FF to do it for you ???????????????????????? I hear he is a supercar specialist ........... which is "sweet"
I bought Fabspeed headers JM and had them coated with Ian's advice...I figured doing anything with the OEM headers which were fine would have been like putting lipstick on a pig....Next round is pulling off the heads and replacing those crap OEM bronze valve guides....Hopefully that will be sorted by next month....
Cheers John, that’s not as scary as everyone makes out given half the car drops out for the work, good for you Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Why’d you go with Fabspeed, Gary? My mechanic recommended them but in the end I was concerned about the 4-1 design robbing some of the midrange in order to add a bit at the top end, as well as changing the sound of the car. I bought Tubi instead to preserve the 4-2-1 and they come with heat shields so no need to coat.
I went through that dilemma Steve...I spoke to numerous race car mechanics that Dad knew really well....They were all in favour of the Fabspeed setup over the Tubi....So I went for the 4 -1 setup with high flow cats and a Capristo stage 3....I'll get JM to drive it when I get it back to compare it to the challenge as they are both 2.7s.....It will be interesting to see how well the setup works in the end.....
Oops! I thought it was belt time, JM enjoys the car properly and it’s a racing car sooo I guess those costs will come along with the experience Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
A 355 major service is engine out Marc would do my yearly service for circa a grand which entailed fluids, any belts that would need replacing , and whatever he found that needed attention
That makes sense I thought it was, cheers Jm,$7k and an awful lot of work, so it is what it is Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
