Hi all, Got my 360 a few days ago and loving it, dream come true! After I have been driving it for say 15 mins, so when the engine is getting warmer I hear a loudish air/fan type sound at idle. I’m not sure if it is normal or not because I only just got the car. It doesn’t do it when you fire it up initially, just after a period of driving. Here is a video, can hear the sound as well the engine. Thanks
Sure its a fan and not something metal like the exhaust valve on each side of the exhaust pipes Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
First im not a Ferrari tech but i do work on mine but im no professional lol.but i would take off the engine panels on each side and look at some of your vaccum lines. even the ones near the exhaust try to pin point where its coming from. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Im sure trev or redneck could be of assistance i am sure tgey will comment soon. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
It is possible to hear the radiator fans after the engine is warmed up. If you don't hear them, that would not be normal.
The fans don’t sound like that,to me it sounds like there’s no air filters in the car Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
If it was no air filters it would sound like that all the time not just after warm up i would think? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Never heard that before. Look around the exhaust area behind the grill and see if you can determine where the hissing sound is coming from. Its possible the previous owner installed a vent fan in the engine compartment to vent the heat out of the engine bay. Dan
Thanks everyone. If it is making that sound when I get home tonight after work I will open the engine bay and see if I can pinpoint a location. Just went on a short drive and it didn't happen but maybe it wasn't hot enough. Hard not to have that pit in your stomach when the car is now new (to me anyway)
about a 40 minute drive home this afternoon and the first 20 mins no dramas, and then the second 20 mins it was intermittently making this noise. At idle and when under throttle, it was mainly noticeable at 2500 RPM. If i gave it a little bit of gas then it would go away, and then when I pulled up in my garage and stopped, went into neutral I could hear it like in the video I posted. Opened the engine bay and it sounds as though it's front right corner. I confirmed with the previous owner and he didn't add a fan. Switch the car off, and immediately start it back up again and no sound! Running normal.
Also I should add that despite this sounds the car was driving seemingly normal. I did have to put 95 Octane fuel in it the other day because it was dangerously low and the pump was out, previous owner used 98 octane.
Sounds to me like a metal rattle based on vibration/frequency. Like a loose bolt rattling on the exhaust or cat area and then the sound is travelling to the exhaust tip on right hand side... Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
My thoughts: It sounds like a metal on metal rattling to me, from the video you posted... IF it is coming from the exhaust, check for any loose connections, or the mount for the exhaust itself, I don't recall if you said it is stock exhaust or not. These cars seem to be a bit rougher during idle than they are under acceleration, so it may be triggering whatever is loose to expand with heat and then rattle. IF you say it is coming from the front right hand side, maybe under the engine panel, then open it up, it's a 5 minute job. There is a cushion at the front for sound deadening purposes, it may be missing or misplaced, causing the engine panel to vibrate against the body/frame. It's all kind of a crapshoot until the noise can be pinpointed to a location.
That sounds like a loose exhaust valve. Try to pry against it to put some tension on the rod that operates the exhaust valve. Sometimes it gets loose and I have it held up with a spring to keep it from rattling Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Just an fyi, I had excessive fan noise/vibration on my scud, but it was from the cooling fans at front of the car and didn't sound like that.
Check all the exhaust brackets. I had one break and when the exhaust would warm up, the metal expanded and vibrated on each other. It had a very loud rumbling noise but would go away when cold. It took me forever to find it as it was a simple metal sheer and barely noticeable upon a visual inspection Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice!
Thanks again all, will be making some enquires on Monday. This car has done 35,000km but only 1000km in the last 8 years. Had just had a major service, belts and tensioners, ball joints, front tie rods and the usual service stuff. Definitely needs to be driven more in general!
Hi all - just an update. Finally got the car down to a specialist mechanic and it was making the noise when I pulled in, he went and grabbed his gloves and put pressure on the muffler and the noise stopped straight away. Looks like a typical original 360 muffler failure and he pointed out where the white dust was gathering as well. Tubi time?!
