Hello everyone. I was debating purchasing a 2006 F430 from my local Ferrari reseller for 98k. The plan was to sell my Viper, and finance the remainder through USAA (Army vet) However I have seen a few 458's for the low to mid 130k's with 30k miles and greater. Should I stay in my F430 lane or are cars in this price range...viable options? Forgive the naiveté but you don't know unless you ask.

Money will never be cheaper: try both & spend some time here looking at some of the downsides of each then decide

unlikely. lower mile 2010s are wholesaling 150 to 170k still. a black 27K mile car wholesaled for 136k back in march. you might be able to find a 25k mile maintained car for 135k but not a sub 15k mile one

I am perfectly fine with a "higher" mileage car. Thanks for the feedback.

Absolutely no reason to avoid higher mile ones. Much better off taking advantage of the value.

I’d say that depends on how long he plans to keep the car.

It takes an eternity to put 30k miles on a non daily driven ferrari. I think hes good unless he wants to put 70k miles on one

I meant, I wouldn’t want to be in a position of selling a “high mileage” Ferrari that I’ve owned for only a couple years...could spend as much time selling it as as he had owned it.

The only cars I've seen in that price range are ex-rental cars....so no.

And go research the transmission issues on early 458s, I did that and came away with the opinion of buying 2012 or newer.

    Thanks for your service....

A guy named Enzo once said “if you can’t afford a Ferrari, you damn sure can’t afford a cheap one”
It points to the repairs you would be making to a cheap one :)
Over time you will spend about the same either in payments or repairs....

I'm not a believer in statements like these......there are deals to be had on good cars in some circumstances. However, finding those right deals require knowledge and on a first exotic, I would avoid such adventures. I got stupid lucky the first time.....it won't happen again.

There are deals out there you just have to become educated and have cash ready "right now".
I watched the market on GT2s for 2 years and bought JUST as they started to appreciate.

Also remember on the sell side you will have problems selling a beater Ferrari.
    Buy in the Goldilocks zone.
Not the beater, not the collector.
IMO the best "deal" is a very nice car in the lowest 20 to 40 % as far as mileage because you get that premium back when you sell without the headaches of buying a beater.
Plus pride of ownership is worth something.

    an example;

I just did this research recently and ended up buying my 458 last week (yay!) I could not find a car below $150k that didn’t seem to have a serious question mark on it. The cars are just holding their value at the moment since F430’s are still consistently in the $90-$110k range (coupes). I ended up buying a later model year that was loaded up with options (especially carbon interior bits), so I paid more. Worth it to me, though!

I will say that Ferrari of Atlanta was telling me about a customer this week who daily drives his 458 and has 118k miles on it, with only standard maintenance and service done since new! SA was extremely complimentary about the reliability of this model.

First, let me say, thank you for your service.

If I was in your shoes, I would actually wait until the 458's go down a bit more since your heart seems very set on it. I believe the 458s still are holding strong since they are the last regular production NA mid-V8s. To me the 488s are going actually going to be the biggest hit being the 'middle child'

Regular production, not N/A, and you have the Pista and F8 on the other end for the squeeze.

I think we'll see a the 'big' push downward when the V6 Turbo Hybrid comes out that will undoubtedly be faster and sport a new body shape.

Another thought: since we are likely at the end of an economic cycle and due for a downturn, you’ll likely see a bunch of depreciation (as much as it pains me to think about it) on all Ferrari’s and other exotics soon. So you could just wait a bit and see.

I drove mine to 37k miles. Nothing but yearly service. Just traded it on a 2019 488. The car has been bullet proof.

During all economic down turns there are always deals on "toys". I think it is better to be patient waiting to find exactly the car you want rather than waiting for a deal although there may also be more avaiable cars during a ecomomic down turn and thus more choices.
