For the sake of giving me something to think about, does anyone have any thoughts on the origin of this leak? ‘80 GTSi, driver side. It doesn’t seem to be coming from anywhere up high. I need to go in that side of the car to rebuild the CV joint next week, but figured I’d see if you guys had any input

My first guess is the leak is from the orange hose going from the block to the oil cooler. That's supposed to be braided, at least it was/is on my QV - I had a leak from that hose and replaced it last year, cured (sourced the hose from Superformance). Here's my original and replacement:

there are at least 10 places for that to originate from. Fit it from the top down, one at a time.

    Distributor housing, seals, gasket, orings
Oil filter housing, oil line at the top under the oil filter
Oil return line at rear head going down into the block
    Valve cover gasket, bank 1
Oil line from oil cooler to rear of block
    Rear main seal
Gear oil seals between gear box and transfer case
