Check out these auction results. The first car I knew, and it was a deal. Thought about bidding, then just got busy and forgot! This would have been a great car to track and take to Road America for the FCA 50th anniversary-relatively inexpensive fun. I saw it run many times in Savannah, and actually drove it. Then I noted it on the sale brochure, and called the owner. He said R&S talked him into listing it no reserve, convincing him that it would go for good money. WRONG! He said he had more than that in the motor.

    Sold: $42,900.00

"The programmable MOTEC fuel-injection and digital dash monitoring system are state of the art and both easy to use and extremely reliable. Body work is fully-modular and can be completely removed and refitted by two people in less than 10 minutes! The car has no accident damage and very little indication of the limited track use it has had in years gone by. The motor currently has only set-up and dyno time and produces in excess of 300bhp at less than 7,000rpm! The original build cost likely exceeded many hundreds of thousands of dollars"

(Not sure about this car but-Check that last sentence-how could you possibly trust action companies with that kind of BS)

Man, I should have gone out there and done some bidding because those are absolute steals.

Or proof that there is a thin market for these cars.

I think that the one that sold for $42k was on the lot recently at Symbolic Motors for around $80k. Both of the cars look like excellent buys.

Let me say this: I don't think that the prices paid are far off the actual market value for these cars. What I really meant in my earlier comment is that the prices paid represent a lot of car for the money and the reality is that you would most likely only get the seller to see that in an auction setting.

Although I'm sure that at least one of those guys would rather just have his car back than have the money.

I am the proud new owner of the 1980 308lm #88. I can't wait to find out as much from the community as possible. I am going to be entering it in some races so stay tuned for some photos in the future.

I live in salt lake city Utah. I plan to take it out to Miller motorsports park in October for some time attack. I will be slowly restoring bits and pieces but I mainly want to just enjoy it and have fun. I got a build sheet with it and apparently it has a built engine with forged cosworth pistons and built heads good for 8700 rpm. I am super excited to find out all I can about it so if anyone has any more information I would be a happy camper. Thanks for the warm welcome, I will shoot some more pictures tomorrow.

Very cool buy! I'm up in Park City right now and will be here numerous times this fall. I'd definetly like to see it running on track, keep us apprised of when you'll run it.

    Enjoy!

A man named Jim carpenter of Italian design and racing is who I believe built the car/engine. I am going to be changing all fluids/plugs, then I am headed to the dyno to get it tuned for this altitude. I believe it should make about 280-300whp

Congrats on your winning bid! Looks like an awesome track car. The auction notes say the car was sold on a bill of sale. Does that mean it can't ever be titled for road use?

    And welcome to Fchat!

From what I have read it is possible to register with a bill of sale, it just may take longer. I would love to register the car and have some fun up canyons, but if I can't then it will still be a blast as a track car. I hope I can though :)

By the Russo and Steel descriptions these are both off the rack '80s 2V cars that were stripped and reassembled into track cars by privateer shops seemingly without the gravitas of having significant racing history. So as far as 308s go there isn't much left of either one to be desirable to someone looking for a 308 to collect or cherish. I don't think it would be fair to compare these cars to any other 308 on the market, for which by the way there is no shortage of enthusiasm and decent demand matched with adequate supply.

These two cars stand uniquely as very cool Ferrari powered track cars. Either one would be fun on track day, and the more expensive of the two can actually be driven to the local Cars and Coffee where it will be sure to gather a crowd.

Here's a short thread on Italian Design and Racing of Phoenix...

I didn't get much of a hit on google for Bill Freeman of The Fine Car Store in San Diego.

    That's my $0.02! :)

Yes it would. In its current configuration it only weighs 2280 lbs. so it should be quite the rocket

    Hi
Looking back on old Fchat We now have the car that Bruce bought at Rand S in 2012 I'd like to try and fill in the blanks a little You mentioned that you new the previous owner and drove the car. Is there anyway that I could get in contact with him? Thanks Jim Carpenter 480 668 1007
