My air bag light is coming on. Any thoughts? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
On early cars it is possible to reset the system, but for peace of mind, I would take it to a Ferrari specialist to have the system interrogated. At least that way you know what is causing the light to illuminate. You say it is coming on. Does this mean it is intermittently appearing? Have you been playing with your binnacle wiring?
Intermittently. I have not played with any wiring. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Usually a faulty external component will latch the light on permanently. You may have an airbag ECU problem.
I've just been advised by our man in exile, Dave, that the manual is wrong about this. Has anyone seen otherwise? Since there is only one part number for all F355's, being unable to reset the light (even on cars with the correct number of pins on the SD port) should apply to all.
I personally have not tried to reset but Dave or someone he knows has and it did not work. I do not think at this point i wo7ld say it does not work for sure but I believe others dissagree
The WSM does state that the faults can be read and cleared from a pigtail in the passenger footwell, but I'm not sure if it really works. I tried to get my air bag light to flash using the method stated in the WSM with no success, after chasing an intermittent air bag light. I also agree with post #4, that an external fault should latch the light on. If the air bag ECU turns out to be defective, I think its a done deal. I have looked for any available ECU's and have not gotten anywhere. I did find a company called air bag systems that claim to rebuild air bag modules, but I'm not sure if they would be able to do these. Also, with the inflator modules reaching 25 yrs of age, who knows if they would even work in a crash.
