I have a 1977 308GTB with red valve covers. Could this be original color? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nope None of the 308's, 328's, or Mondial's (all of which share the same engine series) had painted valve covers --- all were bare aluminum.
BTW, I haven't seen a "Theiler" logo on a car for a looooooong time. Do you know if your car has any of the Theiler mods done to it ? Herman Theiler was a former Ferrari Factory Race Team Engineer back in the 60's & 70's, a principal developer of the 512 racing engine programs, and later became an independent 308 & 512BB engine modder / performance tuner in California back in the 80's & 90's. He had some interesting ideas and designs / components, but many of his changes took the cars into the "danger zone" of reliability ---- lots of failures, lawsuits, etc. He was eventually sued into bankruptcy and split back to Europe quite some time ago..... he may be deceased by now, not sure ?
Ron, your question was answered here four days ago. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1977-valve-cover-color.603439/
He died as a result of injuries from a car accident in California, is what I was told. He was a good friend of Nick's and was planning on relocating to WA. His Ca shop was in La Habra. No idea on laws suits, haven't heard that. If I recall correctly most all his engineering notes etc.. all went missing after his passing.
