Love seeing threads like this, thanks for taking the time. Please can you explain what we're looking at and is this supposed to be sleeved or is this the fix?

The sleeve is a repair added to deal with internal corrosion.

Gotcha thank you. Why would there be corrosion inside a hydraulic passage though? Shouldnt it be full of fluid? Lack of use?

The wrong fluid will cause corrosion. You have to use fluid thats specifically magnesium safe.

Thank you. I vaguely remember my guy using a silicone brake fluid in my f40's clutch for the same reason...

Interesting shot, it shows the crank sits quite high up for a dry sump car.

Mileage on this car? Obviously not the first time this has been apart. How many broken bolts/studs? Just a painful fact of life with steel and aluminum.

The throws have to clear the bottom of the casting and the flywheel fills the entire bell housing in previous photo. It is not so clear to me that it could get much lower...

Agreed, but one of the points of a dry sump set up is being able to mount the engine down low, using a large flywheel as shown negates that option. had the original design also incorporated a smaller flywheel the castings could have also been smaller, allowing the engine to sit lower and had a positive effect on the centre of gravity. I wonder if the F40 version of the engine uses a smaller flywheel and bell housing.

Smaller fly wheel would require a multidisc clutch and a heavier flywheel to maintain the same moment of inertia. Plus, look at the first picture in post #2. The bottom of the transaxle case appears to be at the same level as the bottom of the flywheel. So in this case a smaller flywheel wouldn't make lowing the engine possible. Lowering the engine would require redesigning the transaxle so that internal components were higher. Ferrari probably considered where the CG of the entire assembly was.

1,200 miles. It had a prior hydraulic failure and was reassembled incorrectly causing the o-ring to leak all the fluid out again.
