Current market prices are about the same. Which one would you have?

The manual will not depreciate as much and will be more fun to drive. Cheaper to maintain. The 458 will outperform it on a track. I have a 430 manual

458 is still depreciating and 430MT probably going up further.
    Looks and performance 458.
Long term I think 458 will start to appreciate as it's last NA and last PF design, kind of like air cooled Porsches. Younger gen won't know how to drive MT.:)
    I vote 458. I'm actually considering one.
This is all speculation and personal taste.

Personally I think the F430 is a nicer looking car, can’t go wrong with a gated one!

F430 is more fun to drive. Invest in ocean view land, not cars. Buy a sports car to enjoy.

Ocean view land. I like that.

Good place to park my gated 430 Spider also.

This question goes through my mind quite frequently especially as my neighbour has a very nice 458 Spider. I use my 430 as a weekend fun car. I would be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes look at his 458 and crave the extra power, extra comfort, connectivity. Looks wise I think it’s a tie. Driving through urban areas the 458 would definitely be better as it’s a two pedal. But for fun, I’d still not swap. It’s not just the gearshift, the 430 has more feel and more rawness, but the gearshift makes a big difference for me too, that’s a personal thing.

There’s another element also, the 360/430 with roof down feel more convertible than the 458/488 which you sit much more protected in, and which feel more like super targas. That makes a difference to me too.

So far, I’ve not swapped but it’s a tough one. If I lived in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by great roads, it would be a no brainer for the 430.

Either way, you can’t go wrong. Two amazing Ferraris.

My neighbor backs onto hwy 1 in Santa Barbara county. Lots of great roads. I managed to get a warning for 94 mph in the 430 yesterday by the CHP. I left home without my Escort Redline. I saw him on side of road by bushes. I just pulled along side him. He thought 94 was slow for a Ferrari. I told him I saw him. He said since he didn't have to turn on his lights and chase me he would give me a warning.

I have a manual 430 spider and I bought it because it walked into my life rather unexpectedly while I was looking for a 458. I thought to myself, these are not easy to come by, I should grab it. Fate.

After having it, I am soo grateful I bought it without thoroughly understand how special it really is. If I get tired of it or want something different, I won’t lose much money and later cars are easier to get (with some exceptions of course).

So if you have the opportunity to pick up a gated 430 spider, a good one, you won’t go wrong.

That is perfect in every way. I remember the beautiful roads around where you are, but thought the CHP was so strict that 94 would get you sent off to jail for the night. Roads, scenery, weather, lenient cops, and some excellent Pinot Noir for afters. That's 430 Spider country..I need to battle with at least 30 minutes of London before getting to the countryside.

Here an unbiased comment, my gated F430 feels slower than an F1 car. My arm and foot coordination is no match for that F1 gearbox.

Went for a ride/drive with a friend in his paddle car and that was my first impression.

Second impression, he looked kinda dorky with his hands at 10/2 the whole time and it wasn’t comfortable for me. I like rollin’ with on hand on the wheel and one on the shifter when not driving 9/10’s like 99% of the time I’m in public roads. 12/knob hand positions for me.

Third impression, the F1 car was too easy to drive for me. Not enough human machine engagement. Lacked the challenge of rev matching and lacked the fear of wrong gear selection when downshifting which gives me a bit of adrenaline. I’m clearly not an autonomous vehicle auto pilot type of guy.

Last thoughts, I don’t have to worry about most millennials driving my car.

    Rowin’ Slow... but love it!!

I have a 430 MT spider. My wife has a 458 Italia. I don't know how a car can get much better than a 458.

But I would not trade mine for hers.

There is nothing in my view more fun than driving the last of the gated Ferrari’s. Wouldn’t trade mine for a 488. That said, I hadn’t even looked at what was happening to prices in several years (until the dealership asked me if I was interested in trading out of mine). Thought I read somewhere they made less than 1000 of them and they stopped offering the gates in 08 but perhaps someone knows the details.

I've been having the manual 430 vs 458 debate for a while now. Considering making a run at this one: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2008-ferrari-f430-spider-5/

I'd like a driver so the miles and the accident history seems like a good chance to get one at a discount. The spec is about perfect for me otherwise. What do you guys think?

For a car you plan to keep & drive, I'd be less concerned w/accident history - provided maintenance has been maintained. Gated 6-Speeds are pretty hard to find, especially in a spec that suits you. I couldn't find one at a price point I was comfortable with, so I ended up going w/a F1 that fit every other criteria. You could have some protection given premium for 6 speeds if it's been pretty well cared for.

A few threds referencing this BAT no-sale car. Not an easy sale though. It was in a big accident in 2012, so it says, and currently has "dings and scratches" whatever that means.

Shortly after my almost year long search for a gated 360 Spider, I came across a nearly identical car, only it was a gated 430 Spider. I would have bought that instead, but it would have meant losing money on the 360, as well as paying about $35k more than I paid for the 360, and paying sales tax again. So, it was a lesson in waiting for the right car, though I did think I had found it when I first found the 360.

If prices really are equal, the 430 is overpriced IMO.....

I have both a gated 360 and a 458 Italia. They are so different and so special in their own ways that I can’t imagine you making a bad choice with either the 430 Gated or the 458. Great cars. We all are so lucky to have a choice ;)
