Boat shoes or flip flops for Michigan. I haven’t own my car yet in the winter... Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Getting grains of sand into closed toe shoes on the way home? That would bother me. I surf/go to the beach all the time and one can't beat rubber slippers. I usually bury them in the sand so they don't get taken. They're cheap enough that if someone steals them, I don't really care and after exiting the water and showering off, I'm more comfortable wearing rubber slippers that dry off easily. I don't recommend walking barefoot unless you're on the sand, it's easy to pick up fungus and warts walking around wet surfaces barefoot.
For short jaunts I leave shoes on, it's easier. For longer highway drives I usually kick shoes off (socks on). I like operating the pedals without shoes, better feedback, more connected-feeling. I never wear flip flops/sandals/etc., ever since I was a little kid I hated the things, but for the record go barefoot all the time at home and prefer to run outside and on the treadmill in "barefoot" shoes. Honestly it seems unhealthy to me to keep feet bound up in socks/shoes 24/7, it's good to let them breathe, and also good to let your bare feet do the work of walking/running the way they were designed to without stuffing them up with artificial arch support and cushioning.
