Low mileage 3.2 Mondial Coupe not started in 10 years

Can't go wrong for 8K, especially since you obviously know your way around a toolbox.

 

Congratulations on getting the car! Great price and it sounds like it's now in capable hands. Could this turn out to be the first Mondial with a LS1 transplant?

I bought a Mondial 8 not started for 11 years but in superb condition....low miles too but >$8k....you got a good deal!

Engine comes out the bottom on yours too I think...

Got mine barely running but then decided to put in modern EFI, supercharger and all that is in progress...

I just recently got my first Ferrari, an 86 Mondial 3.2 Coupe. Engine runs well, mechanicals are good. Headlights don't work, nor do some other lights. Body needs some dents fixed and the whole car is to have a paint correction. I have a little oil drip under the pan. Cold start engine runs a bit rich. I'm starting to sort it out. At $10k each, ask to buy both at maybe 17K, its a steal, and tell them you'll have to put just as much into them to get them up and running. Use a trustworthy mechanic, or use a foreign exotic house for fixes but you'll pay more but it will be done correctly. Then you can sell one all sorted out and get some of your money back.

I’d change the oils, fuel, coolant and the belts while the engine is in the car and give it a road test. That way you can get an idea what else needs your attention while the engine is out. As in clutch, water pump, cam belt drive bearings, injectors, alternator bearings, valve adjust, cam seals, misc noisy bearings, etc. Parts are too expensive to just replace because the engine is out, I’d want to know I’m replacing it cause it’s bad.

That’s awesome looks great! Post some interior pics if you can. I’ve heard of auto elite believe the guys name is Vinny? Lot of mechanics prefer to pull the engine even if they don’t have to that’s just the way they do it.

 

For the level of work needed it is so much easier to get everything right with the motor out. Overall, there's probably less labor hours (by experienced techs) than having to do the same with the motor in. 4k to 6k is nice quote, but expect a little higher (so it won't hurt later).

 

As long as the body is sound (i.e. little or no rust) I can't imagine a "worst" by now when you consider your entry price.

Uh hu, got her lookin' good, but the real magic is the engine and the sounds, not the look, and so she doesn't catch fire and try to kill you (ask me how I know.). Don't get lost in this adventure or we will have another 8K Mondial for sale here.
