Sold IWC, Big Pilot 5002 (rare 'Transitional' model)

Listing for sale this IWC Big Pilot 5002 ‘Transitional’ sold with box and papers.

This very rare and very desirable Big Pilot 5002 from 2006 is one of only a few hundred (no official count) to feature the higher beat Ref.51110 movement, developed for the replacement 5004.

This is why it is referred to as the ‘Transitional’.

Most collectors agree that 5002 Big Pilots with serials 314xxx and higher include the newer movement and are referred to as Transitional.

This watch has the serial of 316xxxx with the Probus Scafusia crown instead of the ‘fish’ which is another ‘Transitional’ reference identifier.

I can also provide a slow motion video showing the 6 beats vs 5 beats per second on request.

Service history is unknown but watch is running correctly and winds smoothly.

Overall, this Big Pilot is in very nice condition with only a few light scratches but no significant dings. There is a small blemish on the bezel near the 11, a small blemish on the 7 lug, a few scratches on the case back and backside-lugs. Other small scratches are very minimal and consistent with age. These are all easily fixed at service by IWC if new owner so desires. The sale includes what is pictured. The original IWC, white cardboard box is in poor condition due to age and had been clear-taped. However, the interior wood box and all contents are in excellent condition.

Just completed a full mechanic service by a well respected IWC certified watchmaker.

I declined having any polishing work performed on the case. It is in excellent condition as is with only a few hairlines.

Superior confirms in writing the 51110 movement, making this a verified and very rare Big Pilot 5002 'Transitional' reference.

Yes, it really was IWC who brought back big pilot references into the market place when they launched their 5002 Big Pilot back in 2002.
