Hi everybody: I would like to know if anyone here has ever seen a 575 M luggage set without any oxidation at the metal parts inside the suitcases. All the ones I saw have it, sometimes even the outside zip handles are corroded/oxidated.

    Thank you very much.

    ciao

    Albert,

Yes, I have had several 575M sets with no issues. The outside zippers and inside metal buttons (and claps on the 360 sets) are all susceptible to corrosion. I also had a couple of Superamerica sets with no issues and one set with corrosion.

The only way is to replace them with new ones

It looks the corrosion problem is very common!

You need a leather specialist and some standard metal parts. Just the zip handles look custom, the others looks to be standard ones

Problem solved: it's due to the glue that holds the interior lininig to the suitcase structure. If the interior linining detaches a bit, the glue is exposed to the air and develops a very corrosive athosphere (acid) that will destroy every metal part of the suitcase. I learned it in a 612 suitcase, that is very similar to the 575 suitcases: I got the spare parts to replace the corroded ones and left them inside the suitcase for a month. The main inside panel was detached and the glue exposed. After that time the new parts started corroding!

So: there are not corroded 575 sets (I got one, finally) that are the ones with the inside lining still well attached to the suitcase.

The corroded ones (I got one of them too) can be fixed by replacing the metal parts (by a specialis, a car interiors specialist or a shoe repair specialist).

I had my 612 suitcase fixed, and very well.

    ciao

Barry, every single Ferrari is a bit of an headache, to be honest: luggages are a very small headache, trust me that I own 30 luggage sets. To fix them you just need the spare metal parts and a shoe repair specialist. And not all are rusted. Only 156 sets were produced for the 575M: they are rare and worth a lot of money, they are nice and so (in my opinion) better have them than don't have.

As for the metal part low quality, the problem doesn't come from Schedoni, but from Ferrari. Here I'm talking as one of world biggest collector of those items (I own almost them all, so I can compare each other): the early Schedoni production is ultra mega high quality. I own the first set ever produced (January 10, 1977, that means 42 and half years ago) and it's still like new. Top quality thick leather outside and inside, brass metal parts. Then Ferrari asked to reduce prices, to use that stupid vinyl interior leaning that does flakes (up to 355-456), thinner leather and so on.

But you can fix them with much less money than you need to fix the car they belong to… ;)

    ciao

    PS
Guess who produces the luggage set in the link here below… ;)

Wait only 156 sets for the 575 or 575 and superamerica? Do you have any links for that number? I’d love to get mine fixed but even the dealer didn’t know how to help me. Since you know stats so well, any info on how rare the superamerica pieces I have are? I saw one guy on here selling a full superamerica set asking like $12,000

    sorry, I cannot.

The figures I wrote is for the 575M set. 575 M cars production: 2056 units. 575 M luggage set production: 156 units.

Means 1900 units of 575 M cars over 2056 haven't the luggage set... (means an expensive thing when you want to buy it for your 575M)

    ciao

Alberto, the set that was originally ordered with my car by its first owner was made by Connolly, according to the bill of sale. Regardless, I was interested in a car and not a trousseau.

I think most of these luggage sets wind up stored away in their brown bags and never used. I really have no need for Ferrari luggage. That Ferrari duffle bag has been carrying my racing gear for many years. It fits perfectly into the trunk or on my rear deck. And I got it cheap on a clearance sale!

Look at it this way; I'm one less 550 owner intent on having a luggage set which increases the chances of another to find a set. :)

Here's another with no interest in Schedoni luggage.

I just wish the one of the two vintage Seeger "Cashmere of Leather" bags I have was 1 inch narrower then both would fit better on the rear shelf.

+1, my 550 didn’t come with luggage set as an option and not really interested in one. :)

The luggage is cool I won't lie, living in miami beach we'd often make weekend trips up the coast and stay at resorts in boca raton and palm beach, i know silly leave one beach to stay at another lol but the boca beach club for me was the nicest resort I loved it. I'd pack my luggage and put it on the 575 shelf and pretend it was a useful car for a weekend trip haha. Any excuse really to let the v12 open up on the highway for a long drive!

thanks to everybody for the info. I only wanted to learn if the corrosion problem is common. Result: yes, it is, but there are also sets that don't have it. I like orginal luggage sets, as they are a part of the car, but I can easily understand that someone can just see them as very expensive useless old suitcases. Maybe, but they are very nice, at least to my eyes.

    ciao

    1. Spray with alcohol until saturated
    2. Let dry
    3. Check fit on rear shelf
    4. Repeat if necessary
