"My car lost it's power steering for the rest of the race. It was a good workout"

Max probably won understatement of the day :D

Let's ban power steering then !

I'm so glad that Max could won the race even after that 360-degree spin. The very first time I saw him racing he was leading by a long margin a wet race, but out of nowhere he spun alone, dropping to 10th or so. At the parc fermè his father came huffing in anger and pointed his finger menacingly to the kid. The rumor at the time was that Max was "punished" by his father whenever he messed up in the track. :D

I stick with what I wrote then.
Max Verstappen is doing good, and becomes a hot favourite for years to come, but ... he is just the exception.
Thousands of kids waste their youth, exploited by pushy parents to realise unfufilled dreams , or unrealistic ambitions.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/145090/red-bull-totally-relaxed-about-verstappen-future

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is now "totally relaxed" about Max Verstappen's future at the squad, despite worries earlier in the 2019 Formula 1 season about losing him.

While Verstappen's current contract runs until the end of 2020, there are performance clauses that could allow him to leave earlier if certain targets are not reached.

The exact details of those performance marks have not been revealed, but it is likely that it relates to Verstappen being in a set position in the drivers' championship by the summer break.

Should that requirement be for third place, then Verstappen is currently in the target position and 21 points clear of fourth-placed Sebastian Vettel - meaning only a freak set of circumstances would prevent him from being in that slot after this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix

But even if Verstappen might still have a theoretical way out of Red Bull, Horner said the Dutchman taking his second win of 2019 in last weekend's race in Germany left him with no concerns about next season.

That is a much more confident stance than Red Bull had prior to Verstappen's win in Austria at the end of June, when the firm's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko confessed to being "worried" he would leave.

Asked by Autosport if he was now convinced Verstappen would stay for 2020, Horner replied: "I'm totally relaxed about it.

"Max is enjoying driving in the team. He sees the progress we are making.

"I don't see any risk with that and I think we just have got to keep focusing on getting performance from the car at the halfway stage of the championship now.

"We've won two races, and we've had a couple of other podiums."

Horner described the changeable conditions in Germany as ideal hunting ground for Verstappen.

"He has a great natural feeling in car control, and I think he enjoys those conditions," Horner said.

"He always excels in them and he's got such confidence in the car.

"He's able to do things and manage tyres at the same time. It's extremely impressive."

While Red Bull is now confident of retaining Verstappen, the identity of his team-mate remains uncertain.

Pierre Gasly has struggled in the second Red Bull so far and is 107 points and three places behind Verstappen in the standings at present.

Though Marko ruled out Gasly being dropped before the end of the 2019 season, the impressive form of Hockenheim podium finisher Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso has placed him under more pressure.

As the LH44 fanboys (one in particular) always told us we should listen to those with knowledge (ex F1-drivers, preferable WDC) here is what Nico says:

So Nico, the one who was never tired of telling the world how great Lewis is to make himself looking great as well beating him.... this Nico says he thinks Max is better at the moment than Lewis...He thinks Max in the same car would lead the Championship right now.... ;)

Sooner or later in time, a 'top' driver is beaten in equal machinery by a young challenger - Vettel comes to mind currently. This is a simple fact. Not a declaration of superiority at all. Vettel had his hands full with Ricci and faces the same with Charles. Without errors Charles might actually be the #1 at the team as well. Vettel is aware of this.

LH will face this. Bottas has had a good run of qualy but not able to win consistently. Possibly if Ocon is installed he will face this. LH is older than Vettel as well and seems to make fewer mistakes overall but his age is going to work against him as it does for all drivers.

I didn't watch the video, but i respect Rosberg's view now, and still respect his view on Hamilton being one of the all time greats. Do you agree with Rosberg's views past and present?

Name the top driver under pressure from a young driver in a top team. I stated it was not about superiority or an insult to Vettel. This was clear. LH is facing the same soon or later.

I agree with what you say, but your diagnosis about Max was completely wrong. Almost everybody in the motorsport community knew he was a phenomenon since he moved to F3.

If RBR can keep the momentum going, MV will be a strong pick for next year's WDC.

Max’s best days are ahead of him, Hamilton is in his prime. One has a goal to win titles before his skills slips, and the other wants to get his trophies going. I agree that a young gun is bound to take over as much as Vettel & Hamilton took over from Alonso & Schumacher. Max is that guy. He is beating the Ferraris and Bottas when they clash lately. I know the RBR is improved, but he’s stalking those guys every race.

You’re not the champ until you beat the champ, but Max’s time is coming. I am impressed with his maturity from last season to next. Outside of his push of Charles at austria, he’s kept his nose clean and stays in that top-5. I don’t rate him over LH yet (and their duels have yet to materialize when starting together) but he’ll get there. Even LH knows that

It maybe that Verstappen's future rival will be Leclerc, who is of his generation, and not Hamilton..
I see Hamilton could be leaving once he reaches his goal of overtaking Schumacher 91 GP wins
Hamilton has reached his peak, I think, and will inevitably be slowing down in a year or two.
Leclerc will mature and become a real challenger, but with a different approach to Max, who's really a "charger".
From what I see of his character, Leclerc could be a reincarnation of Alain Prost, a thinking driver who plans his racing methodically.
His poise is noticable, on top of his talent and racecraft, and he is honest, something I like a lot.

If Lewis struggles to race due to a sore throat it's likely he's already beginning to slow down when not everything is perfect.
Great drivers have raced with bigger afflictions than a sore throat.
