Well, bought my ‘94 348 Spider just outside Atlanta about 6 weeks ago and took it directly to FofA for an immediate major. Picked up the car yesterday and pulled into Dublin, VA last night on my way back to New Hampshire. Awesome experience and jumped in off the deep end. The cars are meant to be driven! Ferrari of Atlanta knew about my plans and road tested it for days before my second delivery. Much appreciation for the team there! I will report back on the experience. Day 2 is ‘the push’ and I am attempting the last 970 miles today! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Wow congrats! Enjoy welcome. The cars love to run don't they. We have to ask what did a major cost at a dealer most don't use them? I'm in NJ right off I95 if your in this area at 6-7 pm let me know. The drive though DC/MD is a nightmare, but once into DE its a breeze!
I take a 15 minute break every 2 hours or so. Running strong! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
They did a LOT of work. I had a wiring issue that was a few hours and they reported it was the loosest cam belt they’ve seen. Bill came in at $14,950 or so. But Ferrari will warranty the parts for a year IIRC. My 348 has 27k on it at first delivery (local high end dealer) and the motor mounts were 2k of that price. I also needed a speedo sensor ($575) and a few other items. I did get the crinkle paint refreshed ($400) and a few other items. I could have shipped it and used an independent shop up my way, but I wanted to experience the drive Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I figure that I should be good for about 5 years before the next major, which I may do myself. I’ve turned wrenches for many a year before re-tooling for an IT job. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
That service cost is not bad if that included a full major with it. well done. I'm in IT also but was a jet mechanic as a teen and spent years welding/fabricating and doing cnc work as hobbies have patents and all that. Service is not much different than a 67 Camaro with aftermarket efi upgrade and digital ignition upgrade. Post locations as you drive!
Passing through Dublin Va (it's on I-81) then on to I-78, I-287 and I-87 completely bypasses DC, Baltimore, Philly and greater NYC. But a major trucking route as well.
wait were your motor mounts broken or worn to some spec? I don't think replacing them is super common is why I ask, maybe I need them lol.
The 348 is not quite the deep end. And the water's fine. Enjoy, and drive safe. Hope your radar detector is keeping up.
Congrats! Sounds like a fun trip! Are you running through CT today or tomorrow? I'm in Falls Village close to Lime Rock if youre nearby and need a break.
Made it home late last night.! A great experience and I wish I had the time to do it at a slower pace. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Motor mounts were broken - badly deteriorated. Rubber + heat + 25 years. Trust me, I wish I didn’t have the extra expense! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Thanks! I actually avoided DC and NYC areas as I wanted to avoid the traffic. Out of Charlotte, NC it was 77 North and then grabbed 81N to 84N to the Mass Pike (Rte 90), then up Mass 495 to Route 95 and then a few backroads in NH to home! I'll do a write up over the weekend breaking down the bill into what was in the major vs some of the other work I had done. In the major, there were a few optional items in there. All said - I walked away a few dollars shy of $15k and I'm good with that. I had some unknowns and the mechanic (Richard) has been with them since 1985 and was factory trained on the 348 when it came out. He knows his way around the 348 very well.
Nice one, that would be great a great drive. Visited New Hampshire many years ago, from the UK, a lovely place.
Photo of the new to me '94 348 (at drop-off at FofA) that drove home yesterday. Top down hours were before 11AM and after 5PM. It was a bit brutal with the sun this past week. She will be at the Tuscan Kitchens show next week. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congrats on the car and the drive! Where in NH are you? I'm in the Lakes region, lots of nice driving roads up here. While the Tuscan Kitchen show is great, a bigger show not to miss is Tutto Italiano, the day after tomorrow (Sunday the 4th) at the Museum of Transportation in Brookline, MA (info at mot.org). Huge all Italian car/motorcycle show, will be there in the 355 (and would be at Tuscan Kitchen event, but have plans already).
