I replaced mine but there were thin shims, on eon each. I actually dropped one and it did not get installed. I can't find in the WSM if there is a gap that is required that necessitates the shims. Sure hope not as the shime are nla and are real thin. I got the OEM sensors btw.

The gap should be 0.35 to 0.90 mm. With so wide range, the thin shims are obviously for the purpose of making the gaps of the two sensors the same. The new KIA sensors I recently installed had the gaps somewhere around 0.65 mm (middle of the range) without any shims. You should first check the gaps without shims and then, if required, add a shim or two to the sensor which has a slightly smaller gap than the other one, to make the gaps equal.
