I think 205/70 VR 14 also not everyone knows the size on a `67 GTC, also not if Ed needs the original size or a different size
my apologies - the size is the 205/70 VR 14 That is the currently recommended today tires for the GTC cars in the XWX. U can go up from here if you wish, but from a judging standpoint - which this car will get judged, the 205 will pass scrutiny. 205 X15 will get dinged from the judges. Appreciate the information on the best value with shipping.
215 x 14??? never heard about this size, only 215/70 x 14 you are sure that 205 x 14 ever have been available? can not remember that I ever have seen such size.
the "/??" spec is something that post-dates the 330GTC, as I understood it... I just watched that video, and Tom is right, the issue is explained, plain as day... Apparently, the default in the good-old-days was an aspect ratio equivalent to a "/80"; who knew?
Not an advertisement, but I have used Coker for these tires. I think they have a Michelin rebate now also.
Having cared for 2 GTCs over a couple of decades I have had both the 70 series and 215/14 full profile. For a while [15-20 years ago?] you couldn't get the full profile 215/14s making the 70 the only choice. The 70 series don't fill the wheel well properly and don't have the big donut tire look of the full profile. However be aware that the full profile tires might come contact with the heater spiral duct at the top of the front wheel wells. Even with new springs and shocks a road bump while turning will result in you hearing the ducts being rubbed by the spinning tire. Eventually this can result in a "holey" duct. Try to shape the duct into an oval profile to maximize the clearance between the tire and ducting. Many happy revs!!!
If you were actually using full profile 215 x 14 tyres, which are not available in a Michelin XWX today, and I do not know if they ever were, that may be the reason you were getting wheel well fouling problems, as they are too big. Correct size is 205 x 14, not 215 x 14.
Sorry for the error. The 205 is the correct size. It’s the size tire that is on my current car so I should have known better! Actually I believe the original tires for the GTC were Dunlaps and another make that I cannot recall. I think the XWX was introduced after the model had already ceased production. I had an original Dunlap as a spare in my current GTC. I had to use it when I had a flat on a mountain road in the middle of nowhere. Although it was as hard as Fred Flintstone tire it got me home! I should have kept it for old time sake. Oh well.
Given your location you might also try Lucas Classic Tires in California, I have purchased both XWX and CN36 from them. No shade on Longstone as they are very good as well.
