spark plugs, oil change, coolant change, A/C belt, Alternator belt, Alternator replacement, AC replacement, pretty much everything except the cam belt...

when you take out the fender liners, there's a TON of room in there...

There is not much that cant be done with the engine in, yes even belts.
Its an individual choice as to what you do.
But in a nut shell most things can be done including cylinder head removal.
Cue all the band wagon coming on giving it bla bla bla. The OP asked a question, i answered it.
Like i said, its your choice how you do certain procedures and servicing. Maybe to keep everyone happy take the engine out for everything :D

Agree any job can be "done" with the engine in. Some jobs like throttle body tuning need to be done with the engine in and hooked up. Some jobs can't be "done well" with the engine in. Many jobs get much much easier with the engine out.
For the 2 days it took me to drop my engine out, it's worth it since I'm doing a number of jobs at once, and this is why you see the huge bills for major services. People just lump all the services into one go as everything is so accessible.

To quoted response, Roselli's garage in San Jose does the belt jobs by removing the gas tank... and man do all the other "real" mechanics in the area hate on that shop because of it.

A lot of "real" ferrari specialists in Europe also do the belts with the engine in to.
I recall one of the hundred thousand other threads on this subject, were it was noted that Europe was the were the engine in was done the most.
I personaly know of various respected ferrari specialists here in england that do either.
Why would you? Yes i agree, but the question the OP has been answered.
It was not a question about which is right or wrong, thats for new thread number 3456 :)

I have owned my car for 15 years, done everything to it from full engine rebuilds to paint. There is nothing that i have not done or dont know about on the 355, i know it so well. I have been part of the UK ferrari community for 25 years, its not a case of have i done it or just heard about it, i know like many here in tbe uk and mainland europe that its true. I have seen it at specialists and they dont hide it.
Why? Surely this is not new news to you. Or maybe you have done it your self;)

I'm in the middle of it now and I cannot see myself removing the heads with the engine in the car. Especially the last 95 355 that has a head stud frozen to the head. The mechanic who can remove the heads with the engine in is better than I am, for sure.
