A few years back a friend of mine left a torque wrench on the roof of his car in the garage, before going out for a warm up session. He went out and did a full lap of Eastern Creek, and amazingly it stayed on the roof .... until he went through turn 1 for the first time  He got black flagged and got a severe talking to from the clerk of the course  He then asked the clerk of the course if he could have his torque wrench back o_O

My VR racing simulation setup gets better and better, just need to upgrade the steering wheel.

Cheaper than a real race car, and still a load of fun.

Come round any time, I love seeing the reactions of people the first time they try out VR (the instant motion sickness is hilarious).

Dropped the car off today for a safety check before a driver training / track day at Mallala on Sunday.
Rain is forecast. Chloe has never been on track before, and I'm still a bit of an amateur.
What could possibly go wrong? o_O
    Any tips?! (Moretti excluded.... :p)

Whilst at the dealer had a good look around a Pista.
Gee that is one seriously awesome car. :)

The best advice I ever got was from Guido (Ferrari F1 owner) who said, "Ian, just nibble away at your times, don't try too hard".

Most beginners lose time by braking too early, so rather than wringing the neck of your car accelerating, pick the corner with the fastest approach speed & biggest stop and focus on braking slightly later each lap. For the moment, only brake in a straight line, slow the car to what feels like almost walking pace, turn in, then accelerate from the apex (they'll probably have a cone there). Again, gradually increase your mid corner speed over the course of the day.

The winner isn't the person with the best time, it's the person who had the most fun and took their car home in one piece.

And don't do too many laps at once, 4 to 6 at a time is plenty.

Hey — my Harbor Freight torque wrench ( race shops swear by them) is reading 7–10 Lbs too low.

A big brand tire shop “ America’s Tire “ has a torque gauge instrument on their shop wall to check theirs.

I was trying to get 110# for a Porsche and it never clicked so I suspected; had it checked when they were changing out my Scud NT 01 tires.

Interesting. The only trouble is how do you know their instrument is accurate? I'm a cynic!

I think I'm ready for tomorrow.
I've set the (bald) tyres to 11psi, placed a torch in the front battery compartment, set the idle to 800rpm, put 500kg of lead over the back wheels, and have a Benny Hill CD in the number one spot on the awesome six-CD changer.
And finally I've given the whole lot a jolly good Karcher! :p

To be fair, Moretti was very helpful the first time I ever did a track day. Thanks Bloke. :D

I'll take some pics tomorrow. Hopefully none of them will be of the car inserted into the nearest wall...
