No they don't. And gray market cars have to be tested and approved for each car. Yes I mean each car, not each model. That means that gray market cars can not be registered in CA unless that specific car has been tested and approved. AND, the testing it tough so most don't pass, even when modified.

Good advice. I will disagree on characterizing the 360 pre-cat disintegration issue as “rare.” I used to think so, too, but it seems over time, they either all tend to fail or mostly fail on cars that have been driven hard. If I know several 360 owners who have had this failure, and I do, I can’t say this is rare.

I will say, however, that of those having theirs throw off bits of pre-cat material, mostly they haven’t experienced serious damage. They make a horrible noise and may throw a CEL, and so the owners immediately stopped their cars, but the small pieces either melt or get blown back out before they damage a valve or piston.

Also, I’ve since listened to 360 engines and now think I can tell when a pre-cat is loose (and perhaps not yet failed) and when they are not, and they do sound different. Based on that unscientific observation, I’d say quite a few 360s have loose pre-cats. But maybe that’s because many of my friends drive their 360s fairly hard or track them. My understanding is that the pre-cat cylinders are only press-fit into the collectors, so it makes sense that many extreme heat/cool cycles can loosen them.

    Fabspeed ceramic coated headers,
Fabspeed mini cats with 90° fitting to prevent leverage breaking and Capristo exhaust without valves.

Thanks, what do you think might be the thing keeping the CELS away? I would imagine all the headers are similar, but it seems the mini cats might be the most important.

I would guess its the mini cats as well.
Every time I start the car I stare at the light and wonder if today is going to be the day it stays lit.
    so far so good :).
