Matthias, Great photos and interview! Fantastic to see it in its original race livery back in action!
Great going as always...Looks fantastic. How did it behave on the track with the 'monsters'? Best, Alberto
The Marathon de la Route 1971 rules Finally received the the Marathon de la Route 1971 rules booklet (German Edition), lovely stuff! Thank you Björn! 42 rules on 28 pages…. very complex and confusing rules… no wonder it was the last 96 hours race…. Image Unavailable, Please Login
lovely movie about the Marathon de la Route race 1971 00:40 until 02:00 about the Ferrari Dino #01266 07:15 unil 07:20 about Nico Schumacher`s father on Alfa Romeo Spider https://www.sonuma.be/archive/omnium-du-25081971
better to see in the movie as on the attached pictures.... the car had air intake holes for brake cooling, as it has at the rear end of the sills that makes sence, not to use the rectangle factory air intake holes, as we did so far I couldn`t find any hind on any other picture because all black in black underneth the car.... we will recreate them in the next weeks Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
air intake holes for brake cooling, we are getting closer.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
btw... I was also lucky to find an original Marathon de la Route 1971 program booklet Image Unavailable, Please Login
after further research it appears, that the air intake holes for brake cooling looked different than we initially thought... not like the ones for the rear brakes in the sills.... so we have to think new... looks like they just drilled a hole in the front and put a ovale funnel in, showing slightly to the ground... (see pictures...) size is almost, a little smaller, as the yellow Marchal fog lights... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
we finally managed to get the air intake holes for the front brake cooling right.... it`s difficult to take good picture even with modern cameras... black in black just disappears... in real it looks so great.... thank you Paul! Haven´t recognized this in July when it was posted and now I´m really emotional touched. My father bought the Duetto Alfa Spider new in 1968. Picture was taken during first family vacation in 1970 in Spain, small boy behind is me. I stayed during the 4000 km drive transversal behind the seats on an air matrace and I got infected by the Virus of italian sports cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login The pictures show my fathers car during and after the 96h race, the sitched these three days and noght between three drivers. They finished 7th overall and 1st in the endurance championship. Picture bottom left with the trophees , bottom right show all the tools the driver has to take with him as long stay in Pits got heavy penalties. To survive this distance with a new 2L engine, driving not a GTA but a Spider was pretty unique in Alfa Racing HIstory. Image Unavailable, Please Login He still has all the documents from the race, with news paper every hours during the 96h. Document show the permission to start in a foreign country as it was official a Belgian Race. Image Unavailable, Please Login The Spider is still in our family and was never sold. It sleepd after last 36h race in 1974 for 10 years in our garage befor I restored it the first time. In 2010 we brought it back to the Nürburgring and participated for some years during the Oldtimer Grand Prix. Thank´s a lot !
Very nice story. The Duetto is such a cool little car. I had a 1750 Boat tail around 15 years ago. Sold it and kept the 1969 1750 GTV. They used to be so inexpensive. What kind of wheels were on the Duetto during the race? Still love your hippie Dino's colors !!
During the race the used wheels from RONAL(3554), they were called "shamrock" design ofter used in the 70´s on german race cars like BMW. The 6- spoke wheels from SILAUTO (first picture) got very early cracks and were too dangerous to drive. My favourites are the CROMODORA 5 star magnesium wheels, as on the 308´s etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
