For those of you in the southeast U.S., the annual National convention of the International Plastic Modelers' Society will occur this coming Wednesday thru Saturday, 8/7-8/10, at the Chattanooga Convention Center downtown. This is expected to be the largest such convention in the 56-year history of the society.

There will be a major model contest with cars, of course, along with aircraft, military vehicles, ships, spacecraft, miniature figures, sci-fi, dioramas and more. The vendor room will be the biggest ever seen at an IPMS Nationals, so for four days, it will be (by far) the world's largest model shop! If you're looking for an old car kit, it might be a good place to try. For those of you who do build models, there will be a full slate of seminars by master modelers.

General admission is $12 per day, and children under 16 are free. The best times for seeing the contest models will be on Friday afternoon until 5:30 (when the room will close for judging) and Saturday from 9:00 to 3:00. More information at http://www.ipmsnationals.com/.

I will be there displaying 1/24 scale models ranging from a 1947 Labatts truck to the 1917 Miller Golden Sub to a 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic by Ghia. I'll take some pics.

Sounds like a very good event. Wish I could go, but schedule conflict with other travel & events at same time. Looking forward to seeing some pics, especially of your models; great choices.

Could you post some pic's of your work? I use to be a member of the IPMS and enjoyed it. Planning to get back into it again soon!

The final count of models on the tables -all categories - was about 3200 in competition, plus about 1700 display-only models, for a total approaching 5000! (I took about 275 photos - until my memory card filled up - which obviously only covered a tiny fraction of the total!)

The winner of the Judges' Grand Award and the Most Popular Award (voted on by modelers and visitors) was the same: a large-scale, scratchbuilt cutaway model of the Apollo 11 lunar module. Best Car was a beautifully detailed model of Gurney's Spa-winning Eagle-Weslake. I'll post pics when I find them among the ones that I took.

For those of you who like to plan ahead, the future Nationals will be in San Marcos, TX (2020), Las Vegas (2021) and Omaha (2022), all around the same time of the year.

I was corrected on the scale of the L.M. - it is 1/24. It would be neat to put a 1/24 scale car of similar vintage (a Dino, perhaps) next to it to give it some scale.

In the images above the Porsche 936s and Chaparrals were built by ACME (Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts) president emeritus and ambassador-at-large Henry Trent. Below is an image of a Porsche GT2 by ACME president, and Porsche owner Wayne Webers.

A great favorite of mine is my own Fiat 8V Supersonic, bodied by Ghia; design by Giovanni Savonuzzi. 3D printed in 1/24th scale.

Forgive my total ignorance, but when you say he built them, do you mean assembled from a kit or built from scratch? Impressive either way.

Wow that is really well done. Should sell printed kits of that Ghia model. I would buy one in 1/24th scale.

Unfortunately you can't put them next to another 1/24th scale to compare sizes as the Eagle is in 1/20th scale. I hate them coming up with 1/20th F1 scale for that very reason.
