So I have a pretty standard suburban driveway - nothing that looks out of the ordinary, neighborhood has only been around since 2015. I’m starting to lean towards getting a California, but naturally the car needs to make it up the drive and into the garage. There are a couple of other models I have in mind, but this is the highest probability for my first Ferrari. In a perfect world, I ask to test it out, but I’m basically 2 hours from a dealer that has one. Any idea what sort of approach, breakover, and departure angles I need to clear? What are folks doing in terms of underside protection for the random low clearance situations?
Don't know the data, but having owned a Cali and a Cali T (which I lowered), I would not be concerned. The std ride is pretty high...more so than other sporty rides. Even lowered , I found it rarely issue in hilly places...only an old car wash would scrape.
If a regular sedan makes it, you should not worry. I had a similar concern and I rented a Ferrari at the end before buying my own car because many things can go wrong with those calculations. costs a bit but peace of mind. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
That’s a good idea actually. Driveway has never been a concern with my BMW - in fact, the thought had never crossed my mind. Might not be a bad idea to see how much clearance I have to spare there.
If your driveway looks like one of these, I son't think the Cali will work very well! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Keep in mind that you can't "feather" the clutch in tight quarters, on a twin-clutch gearbox. So you might need both feet to get a Cali into the garage, unless you have a (relatively) straight shot. FWIW, I don't have too much trouble with the (6 speed) Getrag on my EVO X MR, just making the right hander into the garage, or backing out to the K-turn pad. Although I had much more trouble with the underground garage at the office, with the twin clutch. But if you have a two car garage with a wide door, you might not have a straight run into your preferred parking position.
We thankfully have a 3 car garage with a driveway that curves out for the third garage. Should be easy enough once the car is on the driveway itself.
