F430 Servicing question

    I just got my annual service done at my main dealer (prominent London MD). In addition to the set price service, I did a few things such as spark plugs and other little bits and bobs.

    The dealer also recommended I serviced the aircon unit for £200, which I had done in 2017 already - which I assume is nothing else than changing the aircon filter, flushing the system and adding fluid back in the compressor. I found the price really steep back then but saw no trace of it ever been done by the previous owner. So I went for it. The dealer tells me that it should be done every other year; as a result I decided to do it again for another £200, but I find this quite incredible given that other than the odd re-gassing I never had to do it on any other sports I ever owned. Does it really need to be done every other year or is that another way for the dealer to take my money??

    Also, they recommended I change the auxiliary belt every other year. Here again I am very surprised; is that really necessary? At a cost of £350 I decided not to do it this year (did it 2 years ago) - I find this very steep given that the part costs £25!! Is it difficult to change? Any easy guide out there as I am not very handy?

    Unless all of the above is legit, the dealer “piss taking” is making me consider taking the car out of the Ferrari dealer network and start to get it maintained by a marque specialist.

    Hey, there is a solid reason for Nitro in your tires … if I can only remember what that is.

    My local dealer, Ferrari of Seattle, does perform an AC service with their "two year" service. This includes replacing the receiver dryer ( two of them?), top up the R134A, as well as checking the rest of the system performance. They change all the fluids: brake, power steering, coolant, oil and filter, as well as transaxle fluid, engine air filters and AC cabin filter. They just inspect the accessory drive belts. Total cost is around $2000 with tax. Their annual service is comprised of just oil/filter change and brake fluid flush.

    Did you look in your service book at what is actually recommended ?

    For example on the 360 I believe it is aux belt check annually & change every third and a/c check annually & change refrigerant & filter every two years so far from your immediate leap to the conclusion of it being a piss-take it is possible they were merely reflecting the recommended schedule

    Normally three years for aux belts and two years for air conditioning service, which includes a new receiver/filter/dryer, drain out refrigerant, pull a good vacuum in the system to get rid of moisture, and refill with refrigerant and oil. If the shop only pulls down the vacuum with its pump 30 minutes or so, not all the water is removed, and that is likely why Ferrari recommends two year service intervals. Leaving her on the vacuum pump for several hours will allow stretching the service, but most shops cannot afford to do that.
